Is there any way of doing the following?

Running a lead from the headphone port of the I-Pod to an RCA on the back of the headunit and using the AUX channel to play?

I've tried it, but can't find any settings to change to let the head unit know of the input.

Head unit is an Alpine9812.

Anyone else done anything similar?
