Default CPS problem, a little help needed please.

Been having some bad running problems recently. Car missing badly from all over the rev range, often the inability to rev, popping and banging etc...

Thought it could be the CPS so went to Ford and bought a new one. They said the original CPS for a FRST was replaced with the one they have given me...here's a picture.

To me the new one looks like it won't reach in as far as the old one, is this likely to cause problems?

The FINIS code for the new one I've got is 6859702.

Also...its like a bloody soap opera this car LOL.

I noticed this on the wiring.

Looks all melted. I suppose this could cause the above mentioned problems?

Any help appreciated as always

franky thats a cps for a 92 fiesta, the older ones are removed form service

there the same as the efi orion/escort/xr2i though but thats not the right one for the car, will work it but wont actually reach

also that melting does look like a very very possible reason

B19BAL - Cheers for the reply mate. So this new one will work but just isn't the right one for the car?

The old sensor may not be buggered if the wiring has been whats caused the problem, so i may beable to get away with using the old sensor.

Will try later and see...

its the length as ya notice the sensor will work though , just not sure if it will be reliable enough for the ecu to read it

but on the other hand they are usefull when converting a mfi engine to efi as the frst cps sticks through too far

I've cut the plug off now

Can I buy a new one from Ford? Are they easy to fit?

Cheers anyways lads, I managed to get one with a few inches of wire from a local scrappy and seems to work fine...it hasn't fixed the problem though

And that XR2i CPS dosn't work i'm afraid, I presume its because it dosn't reach in far enough like I said above.

So what CPS to use then? Just for future reference more than anything, as I don't think this is what is causing my bad running now.

you will have to change the mounting bracket this unfortunately bolts on behind the flwheel so gearbox off etc.The new sensor will not work on the original cps bracket
