im changing the light fittings in my bedroom. theres 3 wires coming out of the wall. the old bases were metal so the earth was connected to these. so my question is where/what should i do with the earth from the wall as the new bases are plastic and have no earth!
cheers in advance
and remember im a novice in all this!

just connect any earth wires together in a piece of terminal block to maintain loop continuity, and tuck it to one side. it doesn't need to be connected to the new plastic base.

the bases dont have an earth tag so thats why i was a bit puzzled! shocky goods!

Ah yes but the 16th edition contains many elements that are law(part "p" of the building regs,Electricity at Work act ,etc)So even though its not statutory a lot of whats in it is....
And as you rightly point out it is admissable in court..

Whats the requirement for self certing your work guy's? Heard you have to be able to certify your work or a building inspector has to sign it off

We install UPS Systems, usually leaving ac installation to others but on smaller systems we sometimes are asked to cable the 3 phase input from adjacent breaker and then output into dis board. We' ve been using a sub to check it but unsure if its actually required.
Any idea what someone would need to get registered, i.e qualifications?

Ah.................if its commercial or industrial mate it doesnt matter.......Part "P" of the building regs is to cover "Dwellings" only....ie domestic installations..
Yuo can self certify any of your commercial or industrial work with generic certificates available from the ECA or NIC...
