To achieve its sensational top speed and acceleration figures the near two tonne Bugatti is powered by an 8.0-litre, sixteen-cylinder engine. Producing 987bhp and 922lbft of torque it makes the McLaren F1’s 627bhp and 479lbft look puny in comparison.

SWEET JESUS!!!

No, but get this......

The new Veyron, which is rumoured to feature Driveshafts from the Cult-Classic Ford Escort RS Turbo, was only prevented from exceeding this speed by violent Torque Steer. Bugatti say that future plans for the production model include a possible a upgrade to the Drivetrain and is currently in talks with Technical Guru's at Ford about something a little stronger

The four turbo , four-wheel-drive supercar sprints to 62mph in just 2.5 seconds and reaches 300kph (186mph) in a scarcely believable 16.7 seconds

[quote]Producing 987bhp and 922lbft of torque it makes the McLaren F1’s 627bhp and 479lbft look puny in comparison. Differing significantly in ethos over the McLaren and other supercars though, the Bugatti compliments its phenomenal performance with opulent luxury where previous record holders have focussed on driving purity and weight saving[quote/]

What a idiot the writer of that is. The Mclaren was designed to be the best supercar in the world. the best driving car in the world. Thats why it has no forced induction. Just runs normally. Thats why its Rear wheel drive. The fact this Bugatti is nearly 2 tons, four wheel drive and has turbos. Just shows that Bugatii have no idea how to make a drivers car.

And Mclaren never set out to make the fastest car. So for Bugati to just focus on building a faster car than a car now over 10 years old. Is just stupid. Why not build a car that takes the mclaren idea and makes it better. Not build a car so heavy and lacking in driver envolovment that anybody can get in it and drive fast. It defeats the point.

Sorry, but where in that article does it suggest that Bugatti built that car purely for Top Speed?

Many of the 'New Breed' of fast cars are 4wd. Take the Lamborghini Murcielago for example and the Evo as another. The fast that they are 4wd, does not take away from the experience.

Im sure that Bugatti had a number of goals when they designed the Veyron and I would imagine that other than J-Kay from Jamiroquai, who will undoubtedly buy one, most will fall into the hands of people that would otherwise buy a Merc, but have become so rich that the Merc is the 'Hack' now. Take the Bentley Continental GT. How is that a Drivers Car? Its not. It a VERY Fast car that is highly luxurious and very refined. Not everyone wants to throw it sideways into a bend and feel the rush of Adrenaline as the wind comes in the side window.

Having said that, even at 2 Tons and with 4wd, I would imagine that you could still have as much fun in the Veyron as you could the McClaren, perhaps just in a different way.

Sorry, but thats always been the main point for the Veryon. that it will do over 400kmh.

I now what you are saying. Maybe they should call this a GT car like the mercedes mclaren slr. A supercar is all about driving and this waters it down. I bet the veryon is full of electronic traction controls and such like. So its not really a supercar. Its also over 1million euros in price.
