Default Thermostat Housing / Fan Switch Question S2 RST

As above, the sensor for the fan switch that brings the fan on, mine is fucked but I have another one on another stat, they have a big 19mm? nut holding the sensor into the thermo housing, anyone know if these can be removed and replaced? if so I will just swap them over, as at the minute fan wont work

Cheers in advance.

Adam.

The 19mm (ish, think it might be like 22mm actually) nut is actually part of the sensor, so just un-do it and re-fit the other one... simple! Be aware you'll lose some coolant thought, unless your very quick fitting the replacement!

Cheers Sketch & Mark,

I assumed this would be the case, or was hoping, I fitted a new thermo gasket last night and I think that somehow this must have bent the plug and the blue fan sensor that plugs into the brown sensor on the stat housing was hanging off at the stat side

I assumed I would loose coolant, that is not a problem, gotta be quick over the last two days of flushing the cooling system I have had to refill it 3 times lol

CheeRS for the reply's lads.

Well, to update, I have put another one of these sensors in and lost another load of coolant Still, the poxy fan is not cutting in, I had though'ts that this one may be fucked anyway as it was out of my old S2 which I was running the fan on ignition live (I can;t remember but probably because of this problem) so I need to try yet another one... Cant see it being anything else, I have only changed the sensor FFS why would the fan still not cut in?

Anyone got a spare one they don't want from a thermostat housing kicking about, I guess they are all the same for all CVH's

Infact, I need 2 now

Cheers all.

its probably not the sensor but the plug that goes on it, mine is well iffey it works but you have to wigle the plug, the conection seems vey poor so could be this.
Try getting it up to temp and wiggling the plug see if the fan comes on, if so you have a bad connection.
Havent got round to sorting mine yet so its just on all the time which is not ideal

Hi mate,

the first one that i removed (which was almost hanging off) it did work when I wiggled it I found, but I assumed this was the faulty connection to the sensor, when i replaced it with one that was not broken it still didnt work, and when it was well up to temps I did wiggle it and stuff but go nothing!

I think I will be getting another sensor tomorrow, will change it see what happens, if it still don't work, then what? what could be faulty with the blue fan plug? I assume this is what you mean is faulty on your's?

Let me know

Cheers

Another question for peeps, how can I test if the blue plug that gos on the sensor is working correctly? Iam sure if you bridge the connection, i.e put 2 screwdrivers in the holes of the blue plug it will bridge it and the fan should come on, correct? I suppose that is one way of checking that the plug should be working?!

Any more info much appriciated!

yep if u bridge the plug it should come on. i had no plug but 2 spade clips on mine going to the fan switch when i bought it, fan switch wasnt working, and i had a plug/fan switch off an XR2 so banged them on and all is well now bridge it and it should come on! try a bit of WD40 to clean the conections on the plug up, scrape it a bit with a screwdriver might help

Is the fuse ok?
Yup

OK, to update, I have sorted my run about, as I fooked the fan switch on this also trying to remove it when my RST one was somehow broken Anyway, I managed to get both of the fan's to come in on each car by bridging the fan plug (to test the fan plug is working ok and it is not the loom end) Both fan's worked fine, cleaned the blue plugs up with some WD40, didn't have time to do the RS too as had to go with RJ to remove me old engine from my old rs

As the runabout is used everyday, that was priority, the RS can be dealt with tonight

Will let you know how I get on.

Alternatively get Omex 700 Series management, which will control your fan/s for you, eliminating the need for a Fan switch altogether!!

We are. I will sell you the ECU for £500 (normally £1000).

However, you HAVE TO buy the wiring loom at the same time and that costs £600.

Deal??
