Std cam is very good but I'm not sure if it is that good. Whats the rest of the spec??

Yes, if the rest of the engine and turbo is up to it then most definitely. The standard cam is exceptionally good in both the RST and Cosworth.

cool, so in theory unless it is worn, the 250 odd quid on a cam kit would be better spent elsewhere to start with

the engine is on ebay, built by castle performance, it has:

QUOTE
Accralite steel pistons.

Farndon H section steel conrods.

High pressure oil pump.

Stg 2 head has ported inlet with bigger steel inlet valves,Has standard cam which made it ballistic to say the least!

Also comes with the matched inlet manifold its also polished on the outside as well as inside.

I'd be a dubious about the inspection reason for taking it apart ??

Rest of the spec is good. I sold my RST bottom end with farndon rods and cossie pistons for £800 after 5000 miles.

I ran a piper 285T cam which is very similar to the std one. With a norris stg3 head it pulled over 153 @ brunters. It was never dyno'd but at 21psi it was close to 250.

IIRC that engine is in the for sale section here.. does sound very good.
basically similar spec to mine except i dont have steel rods!
as mike says the standard cam is good.. but imo the 285t is better
still 250 quid is a lot of money to spend for not a lot of gain. spend the money else where like on an MF2 driver

no ya didnt it was a grand , i still cry about spending that all in 1 go

and all erst cams will be worn after 50k miles, so fit a brand new ford cam and ya will love the feel of the car alot better

people just buy uprated cams with low horsepower cars as the tuners get more cash
