Default Ford Probe! Anyone owned one?

Hi all!
Iam hunting for any info regarding the Ford Probe, as a mate is about to buy one, after I talked him from buying a VW Beetle
So what should he look for when buying one of those?

Any info / links would be great!

Thanks,
Tombra

an alternative.

they're not that great mate unfortunately, would say avoid the V6 cos they're shite and suffer from head gaskets sure other people disagree tho.

Just look for normal things like rust, rust and rust

They're basically Mazda's with a ford badge. There is nothing ford about them!

I had one for 2 days, with no water in it. Got me to southend, but gave up on the way back. lol.

the v6 is a fookin good car imo, i ran one for best part of a year and spent Ł0
on it, rust? dont talk shite paddy dont think ive seen a probe with rust on it.

for the money you can get them for now its a good deal, the v6 aint too bad on
fuel unless you cane it , gearbox in them are great, very smooth, i would avoid the 16v as there supposed to have distributer problems.

best advice for having a probe is dont sell it too the rapid 1 when you sell it as he
will only smash it to pieces on the motorway

Keep the info comming boys! Thanks so far!
Can't be worse than a fooking VW Bug can they?
He's planing on finding a good sound V6 in "mint" cond, and spend some $$$ on it both engine & styling.

I drive a P reg 16v for my everyday car and can't fault it, it's got leather seats, air con, power steering, electrics windows, electric sunroof, electric heater controls and electic seats, and is a nice comfy drive, down side is it only has 115 bhp, compare opther fords in the price range, Escorts, mondeo's and fiesta's, crap cloth and plastic seats, crap dash's and common as fook, how many probes do you see on the road???

???????????

The panels seem to be galvenised so not seen many rusty ones.

Ok it's an American Mazda Mx6, but still has a ford badge on the front!

i bought a 16v probe last night and wow its fantastic, i just had 2 years of driving a modded CALIBRA and every turn it just fell apart wether it was the gearbox or the battery melting the electrics just awful, but touch wood this probe was excellent, good engine not made by FORD which can be a good thing as its a MAZDA engine underneath. Comfy drive leather seats , bolsters and all that and kinda like the mr2 you are low with the short gear stick so its so comfy and effortless to drive, i say go for it mate. I dont like probes standard i got to admit they look a bit bland but mine is modified :P

driven a few and hated them big time, immobiliser problems can't be a nightmare to trace and cos they're not a common sight help from ford dealers can prove a challange!

That said, over a calibra i'd rather have the probe!
