fookin sunroof sucked out !!!!!!!!!!!!! now with pics
nipped out last night to test the new clutch just to make sure everything is ok.
warmed the car up properly then found a nice empty bit of bypass and proceeded to "give it some".
not a clue about what speed was as my speedo cable is snapped but maybe someone could work it out standard diff, 215-40 17 tyres, standard t5 box ratio, any how got to 7k in 5th.
next news theres a bang, everything sounds loud i,me surrounded by more daylight than usual and the fookin sunroof has gone.
i didnt have any windows open so its not blown out its been sucked out what causes this.

rot causes it..........they have little side brackets on them that locate as you shut the roof, the roof itself rots on these points as they are a dirt trap and when they finally give up the only thing holding the roof shut on the front edge is a bit of plastic.........which as you have just found out is not very strong!
Pugo
oh and the pressure sucking the roof out

had a good look round it when i got home and there is no damage apart from no sunroof.
there was no sign of any rust whatsoever anywhere so i,me at a bit of a loss as to why it happened.
luckily there was no one behind me just imagine that hitting a biker on the swede it would have killed him.

did you stop and pick the roof up ?as the part that corrodes is on the outer frame of the bit that went airborne

yes i went to the roundabout turned round and went back down where i had been.
there it was two bits one in each carriageway so i put hazzards on and picked them up no rust on anything absolutely anywhere. i have some pics at home but i,ll have to get someone to show me how to put them on here.

the lift is caused by the car acting like an aircraft wing, as you approach take off speed the pressure over the top of the car is much less than underneath it, (hence why you also have a big dirty tea tray on the back , to try and keep the thing on the floor ) and the sunroof is forced up by the higher pressure underneath it, and hence then catching the air and foooking off backwards , my saff one "pops" at about 120MPH, I really ought to sort it before that happens to me
