Hi pretty new to the forum and read this post and said artical in PF with great interest.

Always been interested in tuning and have done some myself mainly on bikes but that would equate to a trillianth of what Jamsport have done (probably less than that )

I am also a bikes salesman and every year when the new models arrive we always say how can they possibly improve on the last. Put simply they push the boundries that little furthure never satisfied with whats gone before.

The roundabout point I am making that to my mind thats clearly what Jamsport are doing (and lets face it, it's what any good tuner should do) pushing boundries and revising whats gone before.

So for my two cents, hats off Jamsport and heres to the artists with die grinders

Ben, I am probably the biggest believer of BOTH of those points, particularly the second one. Its the constant relentless grilling I get over my power claims that has made me a little more interested in performance figures, because everyone on here says I should be.

Interestingly, the claim from me that received the biggest barrage was 267bhp, which is quite ironic really, considering the car was running a rebuilt, lightened and balanced engine, Low Comp, Stage 3 Head, T2 Cam, Stage 3 Turbo (on 28psi), GRS Cooler, Omex Management with 803 Injectors etc etc.

THis is the guy who put air vents above the spark plug cover so when it rained water ran in and around the spark plugs causing it to misfire like a bitch.

My S2 was had the Pe stuff and stg 3 turbo that RW's had - twas amazingly fast before the cam belt snapped and hosed the whole thing I also spent along time flowing all the small lips n ridges in the inlet tract. It made alot of power at the top end. Its new owner is fitting the rebuilt head and a PE bottom end to it so its going to be interesting to see what it makes with a new bottom end rather than a 130k mile one.

Interesting thread.

IMO, when you get the right combination of mods you can have excellent performance for little cost. When I started modding my RST i only had a power engineering chip and at 1 bar I had 176bhp.

I then added water injection, exhaust, air filter and ran 17psi. the engine was the 80000 mile old original and even with the standard intercooler my car pissed on scoobys and easily kept up with my mates 300+BHP Evo.

If I get another ERST i will only do basic tuning because Ł for Ł its the best value for money.

Mine had 183bhp with a PE chip and 1bar. With the PE, sorry Vulcan!, Stage3 head and cam it made 195bhp, no lag and revved like crazy - that was the best level of tune it had IMO.

Ben - As I said before and I still stand by my words "you can't lie in front of the timing gear!" You of ALL people should realise this (btw...I am sure you do). Your one example of Christians car doesnt really count for sh!t in comparison to the 100's of other proven cars with 1/4 mile terminal / top speeds being a very good indication of HP. Look at Rods, Martin's, mine, Simon Norris, Ronnie and loads of other big power cars etc etc terminal speeds and top speeds and you can clearly see the the real picture in comparison to your Christan VS your old motor's results scenario. There are many elements involved that could of been the cause of Christians car's terminals etc (I don't know Christians best, consistant terminal speeds or spec / power output) however I care not to comment on that as I don't have the time of day to disrespect him or anyone else on here (it ALWAYS gets taken that way here) although Mike Rainbirds reply directly after your post puts things in perspective quite nicely (remember Christian...I didn't say it...Mike did so don't start!)

End of the day...you want a PROPER power figure...goto a dyno, you want a good example of in-car power look at the quater mile terminal speeds.

Going to bed now as I've just finished a 14hr nightshift (can't be asked to read my reply again so if it's full of spelling mistakes then I appologise).

Thanks = Sunny.

ps- Please don't take my post too seriously......I come in peace although I was born here and have a legit UK passport!

Hi Sunny, it's cool mate I DO agree with you, and 99.99% of the time the timing gear is a true indication of a cars power (hence why in my previous post I said,
"b) the myth that performance times always confirm that a certain car has a certain bhp figure."
Everyone note the 'always'.
The car with more power and the grip to match, driven right, SHOULD be quicker than another with less power and the grip to match, driven right.

Ben,
If that's the case, then why pick on Christian's 0-60 / quarters (where lets be honest, a 2 year old could do a better job of launching his car ) . You just picked an example that you knew would suit your arguement .
