Supra diff ratios
Im looking into doing the supra diff conversion on my sapphire and considering diff ratio options, from what it seems theres a choice of 3.7 or 3.9, im thinking it may be a good idea to go for the 3.9 to liven the acceleration up a little and loose a bit of top end that i will never use. Anyone tried a 3.9 out? Thanks
Yes, I went 3.9 on advice. Mark Shead said the Cossie is massively overgeared and the 3.9 brings it to life, I have 16 inch wheels and now I have close ratio oppliger 4x4 box and with 469bhp and 500ftlb acceleration was vivid to say the least in my little 205 shell, it tops out at 160mph now.
I have all the bits together and plan on fitting in March. Gone for the Supra 3.9 with mk fitting kit and MT rear billet cover. Look forward to testing it. I will try mine without the weir LSD upgrade first to see how it is.
If you are looking to buy a 3.9 they were standard fit in the non turbo supra. When I bought mine it did need some seals and bearings so the cost of refurb depends on condition. I too had weir kit fitted.
I use a 3.9 Supra diff in my focus witch was running around 400bhp 4x4 . and my mate is 2wd with just under 500bhp we both run 18 inch wheels and in the courner and as we get up to about 120 he can not live we my focus running the 3.9 diff . I will try and link the video up.
If you copy and past this into gooGoo the video will play . My mate comes up behind me at a bout 2.30 min in

Thanks for all the replys, will go for a 3.9 I think. With regards to fitting do you literally just need to buy a diff and an mk fitting kit and its literally a case of bolting it in? Or anything else needed? Whats the deal with the billet rear covers?

If you drive it n any kind or anger you will break the standard rear cover as it’s hung from the cover on the fitting kit.
A billet cover is a must otherwise your looking at modifying the beam to mount the diff another way.

You do need the billet cover as people have broken the standard ones as they weren’t designed to carry the diff on the cover. . MT and MK make covers. Either use the MK fitting kit or have your rear hoop modified to take the diff without the fitting kit. I used both and loved the simplicity of the modded beam to take the diff and you can 6 degree it at the same time for a big handling and traction improvement. If not use the fitting kit and it is plug and play.
Hoop modded to take the Supra diff without fitting kit (you still need prop and drive shaft adapters though.
6 degree beam
WRC cradle modded for supra diff, you need the boot floor modded and ideally a cage to locate these.
Billet cover on just fitting kit. I think you can get these covers without the square edges now and the MT ones look ace with cooling fins.
Oh right im sure i read the covers were over Ł500. Mk aparantley have the kits on the shelf ready to go, but im aware that hes not an especially reliable person so in not sure hiw truthful that is
how close are you to him? Collect and pay. You can alsways get a pic of it ready to go and pay then.
