Hi mate. I've got Rac cover after having numerous problems with aa. But then some people say that about Rac so I can only go on my personal experiences of course. The Rac
Have recovered my cossie a few times and have always been really respectful of the car and really good with it being lowered.

I've been with AA who started getting quite expensive esp as I never used them. Switched to the RAC as I know a few if the local patrol lads, when I had a major engine mishap at ford fair 2 years ago they were absolutely fantastic, they got me 200 miles home with no drama, car is lowered too.

They even gave me a loyalty discount the next renewal.

I am with the rac, me and the mrs have used them 3 times in about 6 years and they have been spot on and always gone much further than just arranging a tow to get the car back on the road there and then. You hear bad things about all breakdown companies but as said above, it's all down to personal experience which is why I'll stick with the rac for now.

No-one wants to be an expert on this from personal experience. So my contribution, based on price, cover and one call-out to the wife's Megane when the electric power-steering warning came on, is that Green Flag are worth looking at.

Call out and relay home did take a fair while but otherwise professional enough and does cover any car you (and the missus) are driving.

Next day the p/s warning light was off and been fine since. Bloody French cars!

Oddly enough my renewal came through this morning, as did my father's as I joined us both at the same time. My renewal is £25 more yet neither of us have had to use the service, only thing I can think is my Dad might have a lower level of cover.

Found RAC to be utter shit! Rang through advised the car required recovery and why. 3hours later a guy in a van rolls up to tell me it was funked and needed recovery. 3 more hours pass and I get a driver who throws his toys out the pram as he was told I had a flat tyre then tells me modified cars should be illegal as they make his job hard. Then the fuckers ruined my handbrake by swinging on it it like a neolithic idiot. Complained to RAC who then did fuck all and wash their hands of any of it.

Would rather shit into my hands and clap than go near them again!

I've been with the AA for years and have used them on numerous occasions with mainly great results. My Mrs was with Green Flag and also got a good result when we needed to use them once.

Have a look through topcashback.co.uk as you can make some pretty decent savings.

Oh yeah the app is cool, I managed to book a recovery when my gear linkage broke and cancel it again 30 mins later when I managed to actually fix it myself.. Still handy and gives you updates etc.

I have had RAC cover for past 7 years, had to use them a few times and can only say I found them quick to come out and the guys very friendly and helpful.
The 26 year old Cossy alternator shit itself about 6 months ago and buggered the battery as well. The guy who came out didnt have a spare square post one but still managed to fit a round post one with some modification to get me home. He followed me and then once I had put the car back in the garage took his battery out again. He told me he will always try to get a car mobile again rather than just say it needs recovery. Top man in my opinion. New alternator and new battery fitted , no problems again.

I was with the RAC, told them, car was lowered but only slighly, and policy was agreed, then a few months ago, my front caliper seized on, called them out, he walks over to my car stops and says Im not towing that. and goes to walk off, I ask why, and he says its lowered, then asks for 130 quid to tow me the 19 miles im away from home, I refused, waited for it to cool down and justr drove it home carefully. complained to RAC and eventually got £100 refund for my mates petrol who "towed" me home, but cancelled the policy and now with asda breakdown and thats on the policy for a low loader to come should I ever call them out,

I always wondered why they don't send out a recovery truck first but then I spoke to My mate who is an Rac patrolman and he said they have to send a patrol van out first as they can't take the customers word for the problem. Fair enough I thought

yeah I'm an rac patrol aswell and unfortunately is the case.there are rare occasions that the company will send a flatbed straight away but most of the time we have to go out to assess.alot of customers say oh you wont be able to do anything,we turn up and get it sorted.

When my mate gets the job through and he sees its me and my cossie he just organised a recovery truck straight away. Happened twice now he's a good lad, was really lucky he got the job both times

This is off the main topic but what was the problem that needed 3 call outs by the AA ?

True there...if you have the time. A long time ago now but when I had my Mexico the float came adrift in the Weber carb. AA man stripped everything down, resoldered the float back on the arm, refitted it all and I was back on my way.

Wasn't so clever when the fibre timing gear stripped on my V6 Cortina - 300 mile AA relay took about 15 hours back then.

1 for the alternator and starter motor
2nd for the starter motor bolts coming loose causing the solenoid to break internally
3rd collapsed rear wheel bearing.

Poorly maintained car by previous owner who is supposed to be a mate but it will get sorted over time

Sounds more like bad luck. How do you 'maintain' a starter motor and alternator? Likewise, how do you maintain a wheel bearing....was there no warning (noise) to suggest it was failing?

considering i bought the car off a mate who assured me it was all good. I have been driving it for a week now and it makes all sorts of noises and rattles which makes it hard to figure what is going to fall off first

The alternator is not pushing out enough volts which then kills the battery - surprisingly the old owner never had any starting issues the whole car must have failed after the sale to me lol

Wrong bolts in starter which worked loose when the gearbox mount went - almost loosing the starter on the motorway.

Front tyre was showing the metal and the owner hadnt noticed.

There is more but i cant arsed to write anymore about it. Its a right bodged up shed and the term Polished Turb springs to mind lol
