Default ST200 key problem

As you know I have purchased a st200 that is in the process of being given some tlc, however one problem I have is the lack of keys for it. I was aware of this when buying it. So all I have is one key that has a red plastic spot on the edge. This did open the boot but does not anymore. It will start the car and operate the cental locking when inserted in the lock. SO can anybody help me to what I need to get ..... keys with buttons on to programme? Do I need to visit ford to sort it out? Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks.

If you need to buy brand new keys then I doubt there is any other option other than to go back to the dealer and it wont be cheap. Will probably best part of £200 including buying the blank key and then approx 30 mins of main dealer labour to program it to the ECU..

If you had the original button keys there are procedures you can follow yourself to re-programme them to the car, after you've replaced a flat battery for example but those keys are already coded to the ECU, brand new keys will not be and that's the bit the dealer will have to do.

'blank' three button keys are available pretty cheaply on the internet (Ebay) but not sure how they would work with the car if they are not genuine ford keys.. but that's probably the cheapest option, buy the blank keys yourself if they will work ok and then you'd probably have to swallow the main dealer labour to program them to the ECU..

That's probably why there are no keys.... lol....

Happy to be corrected but that has been my experience of doing this on my Focus a few years ago..

So can I clarify something, the only key I have has no push buttons on it, but has a red dot on its end, and it starts the car. Does has this key got the immobiliser chip in it and is the master key? And if I was to buy a key off ebay (one with push buttons on it ) I could programme it to the central locking myself.

Master keys are all red mate the red part of your key is were the chip is in your key that red dot slides out with the glass chip inside.

Went to Timpsons to ask about the keys, and basically he said he could clone a normal key for £45 or a push button central locking jobbie for £85. Apparently you don't need the ford red key. SO I am quite pleased with that. Thanks for everyones input in helping me.
