it's probably the drink talking but i've been having a think and i'm not sure they are

i've got 3, my going to work mk4.5 fiesta, my normal everyday mk6.5 fiesta, and the car i spend money on but never use, the mk3 mondeo estate

now my mk6.5 does 40 mpg on the days i take it to work, it's nice and quiet, can park it anywhere, all the mod cons, even cheap to insure

the mk4.5 is batter and rattly, but works mechanically well, again does 40 mpg on the work run and i can park it anywhere without worrying about getting a new knock or ding

which brings me to the mondeo, it's massive, rides brilliantly, only let me down twice in 9 years of ownership (fuel pump and alternator) other than the times i've fucked about and kept it broken

yet it's so big it won't fit in most car parking spaces, i'm always paranoid about leaving it anywhere, it gives me half the mpg on the odd day i've taken it to work and it costs £700 a year just to put on the road

so after all this, is it just me or do you have more fun in a little shit box car than in a big motor?

i'm considering breaking the mondeo but it's SUCH a nice car i don't want to do that as i love it like a 4th child

or maybe it's just the :c ry:

It's not just you mate I've been feeling the same lately. I used to be well keen on tinkering with my car on a weekend but now I can't think of anything worse. It may be because I'm a mechanic and I work on cars all week and now getting to the age where come Friday night I'm fed up with them. Plus we have a 2.5 year old girl and my weekends are taken up with her. I have found one thing though I'm starting to enjoy my day job again now I'm not touching cars on my days off and I'm becoming more productive at work. The old Cossie sat in the garage is starting to suffer though. I'm starting to wonder whether it's time for a fun, reliable daily driver and get rid of the unreliable time wasting money pit

When i had my pooma i kicked its head in everyday. Where as the cossie i seem to take a bit more care with it.

Cars can be money pits but to some people its a hobby. People go out on a weekend and can spend 80 quid on a night out. Thats what they enjoy doing.

I've been into cars all my life and sadly the only car I've ever really wanted to own enthusiastically is a sapph cos rwd, it's been sat 5 years doing nothing with only a few things to finish it but they will easily amount to over 4K, then the live map and any issues etc etc but with the young kids and work I just don't have the time, energy and money but I'm still aiming for summer next year.
Defo worth it as it's something I enjoy and an escape from the day to day shit.
My daily is a discovery 3 and an Astra sxi, both good cars but I have no interest in them other than reliability and keeping them clean and serviced.
Cars are only worth it if you are enthusiastic about them or a specific car you are able to afford to own and maintain, if your not bothered or have lost interest sell em and jump on the bus, won't be long till your back.

mate of mine goes fishing 3/4 times a week spends £50.00 every time he goes on bait etc..plus his pack up about (£600 month) he dont smoke /only as few tinnys now and then but hes content ...enjoy what you love , you only live once

cars are Never worth the money...

I have a daily shitter focus 1.8 on a W plate, go everwhere in it and its beaten up, throw engines in the boot, offer to drag cars around for mates etc - its a old motor and quite frankly I kick its head in every time i drive it.

but then ive got my Saphs, Technically there money pits as i will never see back what im putting into them, but for those few hours I get to tinker with them its worth it, most relaxing thing I do without the missus

I prefer the fun daily driver option, I use my ST for going to work, track days, random drives, going to shows and I am going to have a go at hillclimbs next year.

....Looks good, drives well, reliable, running costs aren't too bad and if I want to tinker I do some maintenance or mods.

Only drawbakck is it's a bit poor on the motorway, but if I wanted a better one I'd probably just upgrade to the mk7 ST and do the same sort of thing.

Works for me, probably wouldn't be possible if you only like classics though.

When i had my Puma engined fiesta it was awesome. Can park it anywhere and literally rag the shit outta it on track - was such a laugh on track showing up faster cars. Wish i kept it now

When the wife first got her focus it was a nice car. Now its covered in car park dents and scratches. You try your best to look after a car but other people dont give a shit.

This is one of the reasons owning a BMW,Audi,merc and so on cause some bellend will just bag there car doors against it.

You can still be into them, in fact you have to be just to keep them going.

I've had company cars and company vans, new'ish cars of my own but am always happiest when owning and driving about in an old cheap car.

Most of the guys I know who tinker with there cars at weekends don't work on cars for a living so it's a hobby to them, for me working on cars after work has turned into my worst nightmare lol, I just want to drive the bugger

I can understand that.

I don't work with them for a living but I reckon if I did I'd get sick to death of them and would hanker after something I could just get into and drive.

As it is, tinkering at the weekend is nice.

whatever your job is you wont want to do it in your spare time as well. as a joiner I cant be bothered doing stuff in my own house.
I went off tinkering with cars for a few years but now im building up my tools and bits and bobs for doing it all again.

Best thing i ever done was sell my cossie, frst and merkur (and all my parts) to buy a new Fiesta ST. In hindsite i should have gone with something bigger for practicality. But you wont regret it. Older cars are just not worth it.

The only people who have regrets about selling up everything, are the ones who are chasinv valuations and nothing else!! If cossies where not as valued monetary wise as they are, you can bet they wouldnt be as popular or sought after!!

I couldn't think of anything worse than selling my saff and buying an st or alike lol I know we are all different but Fook me I'd rather give up cars all together and get a Kia. I was at a car show on Sunday as well and there was an e46 m3 that was as rusty as fuck and one of the guys there was saying loads of people are having that issue and taking them back to bmw on the corrosion warranty. I'll 100% keep the saff

E46 M3s are prone on rear subframe rot/failure. Witnessed 3 "mint" ones in my mates all at the same time, all in for "rear subframe strengthening".

Only changed to something new as when i sat down and totted up costs, it was ever so slightly dearer to run and maintain my 12yr old E46 330d Touring than what it was for my 2015 Fiesta ST2. I am gonna trade it in for something bigger though.

And above all if i was gonna spend "spare" dosh on a performance car, it sure as hell wouldnt be on another wanky sierra cosbang. Defo would be an E39 M5 or an E55 AMG

I really really want an e39 m5 there great cars but ultimately I'm into really fast cars and my Sierra will get me there with over 600bhp. If I ever sold the Sierra and had some cash to spend on another toy it would most likely be a c63 amg

Best BMW ever built. Would love one myself. But i would consider trading my ST2 in for an E60 M5 but dunno if i could handle the running costs. One of my bosses at work has a 3yr old C63 AMG with an Eisenmann exhaust. It sounds absolutely glorious. Sounds like thunder

I know a guy who is selling a c63 at the mo for a friend for 22 grand in black it's fucking lovely lol. He has also had an e60 m5 and said the bmw did around 10mpg! It was a v10 one the Merc can get 24. He personally rates the Merc as a better car.

Everyone is different and has a different opinion my opinion was made after going in a saff with over 600bhp nothing feels like that so I'm getting it lol. I can appreciate most cars but it doesn't mean I'd out my saff and get one. Many hate them and I dare say many snub them as they now can't replace the one they got rid off. If I could pick any car to tune I'd have an r35 or a Porsche turbo but with my budget it's a saff

Why are you chaps talking about it like money matters? It's a hobby, it doesn't have to make financial sense. Yes, an M5 is a better car than a Saph, but that's irrelevant if you are passionate about the Cossie.

A car doesn't have to be the best for you to love it, that's entirely missing the point.

Lets cut to the chase, most cossie owners these days are mainly after monetary gain. And then its actual overall appeal. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. Like i said earlier, if cossies where not valued the way they currently are, they would not be as sought after and would be generally overlooked as an investment or as a toy! Other cars would have more appeal.
