Default Zetec Turbo Breathing Oil

Took my newly built zetec turbo for a drive earlier and found that it filled my catch tank with oil then popped my dipstick and covered my engine bay. I'm not sure if I have fitted the breather in the sump in the wrong place as on idle with the pipe off it flicks oil out it. Im not sure what to do from here really.. I also got quite a bit of pressure coming from the head but not sure if its because of the bottom end breather issues?

Shall I add another rocker breather and return the standard one to the sump take off I added?

Here is where my breather is fitted on the sump

Breather needs to be above oil level. Hard to tell whether that will be or not from the picture.

What breather are you using?

I used a bailey rs turbo breather/separator, I added a extra port to the cam cover then piped it up as per the cvh.

Hi, yes I have a breather on my catch tank..

I have piped it up like this:

Sump to Y Piece
Rocker to Y piece above
Then Y piece where the two join to breather.

I cant run the breather in the front because of the manifold being in the way. Can anyone confirm a setup like a CVH could work?

Both into the top of the Bailey unit, just like when on a cvh, a pipe on the bottom goes to the port you have fitted into the sump and another goes to atmosphere.

Drilled just behind the baffle in the cover (removed baffle first) then the pipe fitting is threaded so it bolted in with a copper washer either side iirc.

I'll have a look tomorrow at it all now.. I got a feeling I can't use the sumo breather as intended as it just chucks oil upwards. So for now ill try zetec original breather pipe in rocker to my sump breather then put new fitting on rocker to catch tank and try it.. if that doesn't work meh. Where is your block breather dude

Not that I've noticed, pressure I have no idea, I ran it with a pipe of the rocker cover it does blow gas/fumes out. The Bailey separator sorts the rest.

are you using the catch tank as the breather or have you got a breather tank/oil seperator?

heres my old set up , never dropped any oil even under heavy loads.

bailey oil seperator / breather

top -10 fitting (small) to rear cam cover
top -12 x 2 fittings go to x 2 fitting machined in to rear of the engine block
bottom -10 fitting to rear of sump
bottom -10 fitting to vent or fitted to a catch tank( i never needed one)

x2 breather ports on rear of the engine block , ive seen people use 1 , ive seen people plumb back into the front breather port ,theres many different ways and iam talking from my experience and this is imo the best way to breathe the engine.

hope this helps

cheers paul

Well today I added some breathers

Looped the original rocker breather back to the one I had in the sump. Managed to get a fitting where the original block breather would be to my catch tank and added another take off on the rocker to the catch tank. So far so good.

I used a will pedley breather in block to catch tank. Cam cover to catch tank and return to sump with a breather filter on top of catch can. Works well

I usually have one on the back of the sump and two on the rocker cover when converting from CVH to Zetec so it's plug and play so to speak.

i modified the original zetec breather at front and ran that to a catch tank, same off cam cover. filter on the other port.
didn't have any issues with oil or breathing, if anything it was mostly moisture in the can when i emptied it as i didn't get engine out again to make a sump return.
