Default 306 gti 6

Anyone own or owened one?

Ones come up cheap near me. Going to have a look Friday.

Whats to look for on them?

I know rear beam, electrics are a problem on them. Also cam belts, but its had that done.

My mate had a black one about 7 years ago, only went in it once and remember it being a flyer. Stayed with his mates 195bhp erst.

Great cars although a little out performed by alot of newer cars nowdays but they are rocking near 17+ years old now.

Only thing i'd say is the cambelt. Alot of "tappers" out there. Mine had 2 top end rebuilds as a valve dropped.

Good, fun cheap cars. Get one.

That's a tidy one! The one im seeing is in white.

May get a set of rallye decals as I do like them. Only ever seen 2 though

Always liked the 306s. I was going to get a 106 but they look abit chavvy although they do go well. Was tempted by a 205 but prices are going ^^^Really want a 309 but finding a good one is getting hard!

I had a 97 gold one years ago. It had 60k on it but the second gear syncro was getting tired.
I loved mine when I had it. It had a full magnex cat back and it sounded great.

Id imagine 200bhp is an easy figure to get from one. Seems a fun cheap way for good power.

cracking motors get a set of fast road cat cams in there along with all the regular breathing mods/remap and you will be seeing round about 200bhp

i only just recently sold my black S reg one, mine had done 98k and had a powerflow exhaust & induction kit, it sounded nice.

they love to rev and should pull all the way to red line. Its a proper 90's hot hatch IMO, gearing is great on them. Mine had had a complete top end rebuild so was mechanically spot on, but listen for rattly top ends, make sure it had a recent cambelt & the 6 speed box should have no crunching or grinding

Go like fuck, proper old school feel tinny rattly and feel like its going to kill you pmsl, sadly mine was a twat and chucked the belt leaving me to get the top end rebuilt, typical French cack inside cheap and nasty but still lovable....... actually wish I had owned one when they were much newer.

A friend had one a few years ago and it was a right pile. Had no-end of problems with it, including head gasket failure. Maybe his was just a bad one though.

I could never get on with the six speed box, but I've never really liked Peugeot gearboxes of any sort.

I thinking finding a nice one is probably going to be the challenge, bet there's a lot of tired, thrashed ones out there. Got to become a bit of a collectors item one day though.

As said, it's a car from another era. A "proper" hot hatch, not one of the ridiculous turbocharged missiles that we have now, where you can't use more than about 10% of its performance without losing your licence instantly!
