Default Mechanic needed mk4 Escort 1.4 LX

Have got a 1989 G reg mk4 Escort that I bought last year (May) with the intention of restoring but finances have taken a tumble since then! Has had work done including brand new exhaust, battery was brand new in June or July last year (around that time) but has just gone flat by the looks of it. The motor hasn't been fired up for exactly 1 year now, as I've been meaning to get an oil leak seen to on it, and it needs some welding (wanna get the mechanical side seen to first), welding needed to arches/sills but from a Ford mechanic who inspected it soon after I bought it, it's solid underneath.

Need someone reliable looking for quotes, first job is to get that oil leak seen to and get it running again. I've had a fair few people (surprisingly) interested in the vehicle during it's time parked on my drive, asking about it and in some cases asking me to sell it, including a takeaway delivery driver and his friend/girlfriend! But in all honesty I really don't wanna sell because a) I simply like the car and B)

I'd worry about the sills and arches before fretting over a perished rubber seal.
Repairing them will decide whether the cars worth saving or not,not charging the battery and changing a sump/rocker gasket or driveshaft/distributor seal

The welding is definitely gonna be the most expensive, although everyone who's seen it reckons it's worth doing especially with how good the car is in other areas, apparently it appears to of been waxed under the hood etc. I definitely won't be scrapping it, whatever happens.

Will get pics up asap, phones still not playing ball atm.

that looks like a real money pit, which at the end of it wont be worth much. 4 door base models are hardly the most desirable of cars.

I agree with ruby. Sills are hanging mate lol strip a few bits off it & weigh it in fella.

MK4's are getting rare but time you pay for it to be repaired you could be spending the money on an already half decent one & probably still have change

if you get offered anything more that Ł150 take it, i suppose finished you could get a grand for it, but the paint work alone will cost you that atleast, then the welding and the mechanical repairs

As others have said if you get a good offer for it take as I bet its rotten underneath aswell.
It will be a money bit and cost you a fortune but by breaking it or selling you could keep others on the road

Surprisingly not, although I'd forgive you for thinking so haha! A mechanic came to look at it the day after I bought it and he reckoned it was 'solid' underneath. I've been offered Ł180, but wasn't willing to sell at that time. I suppose someone who can do all the work themselves, has the tools etc, could make a profit out of it(?)

I'd weigh it in personally, the amount of money that will cost to make a good car will far exceed whatever the car would be worth all finished IMO.

Cut your losses and buy something else mate.

If you can't do the welding yourself and you're going to pay someone else to do it fixing that up is going to cost a fortune. You'd need to be a bit mad or seriously fond of that particular car to do that.
