One to avoid?
Looking at a car not far from me on the usual bay of e, or bay of eejits.
Car in question just has a few nice rare bits, interior, wheels, headlights and the guy doesn't seem to know what hes selling and the price is a steal, its had all the important expensive bits done like dual mass flywheel, cambelt etc and its in good nick.
So i messaged him a few questions, he told me a price, we exchanged numbers and things went downhill from there. Agreed to meet him at some point this evening, he text me to say he is taking his girlfriend to work at 5 so id need to come before then. So about 4 I said id be with him within 5 minutes and asked for his house number/road name as he only gave me a postcode
anyway long story short ive drove past his house while waiting for him to reply with his proper address and hes got it with the bonnet up and one side jacked up
I pulled in further down the road out of sight, as i thought i could collar him now dicking about with it or have the element of surprise on my side as he told me it had no faults, id seen him doing something with it so im now thinking its got a underlying issue so i decided to wait for his reply with further address details then turned around and go back.... then 5 minutes later he text back asking me to come on Friday
His spellings shocking too, so hes either a bit of a simple tard or hes stalling me and theres somethings up with it he wants to sort first, even though i said to him if somethings wrong with it just say but he assured me no faults.
Not sure whether to knock it on the head or go for a look Friday.

So to clarify, the bloke might be a bit simple but despite this he is fixing a fault the car seems to have developed in order to be able to sell it without any faults.
I must be a bit simple too then because that seems like quite a decent thing to do.

Perhaps he's not as dull as you think then? It takes 2 seconds to look on the internet to see the value of your car so thinking your getting a bargain by duping the seller in this day and age is unlikely, but not impossible.
He maybe, as said above, just rectifying an issue which is a good thing really or perhaps he's the type to remove good bits off the car just before you come to pick it up like a cat etc.

I put my mrs car up for sale on the Sunday, guy phones about it Sunday night and asked if its ok to come see it Monday night. She takes it to work on monday morning drives it out the drive and the spring snapped. I phoned the guy and explained what happened and he agreed to come another night when it was fixed.
He was a time waster in the end but I was honest from the get go if something is wrong with it he should just tell the op.

Its just what did my head in was he told me to come see it so id left and was on route, he could have said oh the batterys dead or something and he would get it ready for tomorrow but no no reasons just a long wait followed by a let down. I just prefer honesty but even some people in this day and age are too thick to appreciate that. Ill be taking my laptop and diagnostics with me (ill tell him this before i go and see if he stalls me again) Its a 54 reg Audi A3 sport TDi newer shape someones fitted the quattro seats, S3 headlights and few other nice bits too.

I'm guessing it's not an Enzo or FXX you're looking at, so I'm sure there are plenty more cars to choose from.
I recently sold a car, the buyer asked me if it was ok to have it inspected at a garage prior to handing over the money, I had absolutely no reservations about this as I was 100% honest, and it also saves me any fall out if anything was to happen. I can blame him and his choice of garage, and that's the end of the matter, no phone calls or angry texts if the wheels fall off or the engine explodes.
Granted it's not a full proof way of business, but if both parties are willing then it's a good way to deal, even if there is an issue you may both still agree on a price.
Just remember, you don't have to buy the car, if they don't want to play ball, find someone who will.

Just what I was thinking. Why didn't you just pull over, say hi and ask what he was doing. Why drive there, skulk around up the road and then drive home again? If he had already given you the post code so that narrowed it down to very few houses anyway so it is quite plausible that you could have found it without having the house number, which you did do. Strange behaviour!!
