I'm guessing it's not an Enzo or FXX you're looking at, so I'm sure there are plenty more cars to choose from.
I recently sold a car, the buyer asked me if it was ok to have it inspected at a garage prior to handing over the money, I had absolutely no reservations about this as I was 100% honest, and it also saves me any fall out if anything was to happen. I can blame him and his choice of garage, and that's the end of the matter, no phone calls or angry texts if the wheels fall off or the engine explodes.
Granted it's not a full proof way of business, but if both parties are willing then it's a good way to deal, even if there is an issue you may both still agree on a price.
Just remember, you don't have to buy the car, if they don't want to play ball, find someone who will.
