Default sierra conversion to to 2.3 16v engine.

hello all,
could anyone tell me if a 2.3 16v engine will fit into a sierra mk1 and how much modification is needed. i want to run it as a daily. i have complete 2.0 dohc with all running gear set ups (manual) here and wondered if the 2.3 would bolt up. i know the 2.0 16v will do the job.
any help advice or advice would be appreciated.

Anything will fit in anything with enough work.

By 2.3 I assume you mean the one from the Galaxy?

Probably means the one from the bug eyed scorpio.

And if so, its pretty much a 16v version of the 2.0 8v twincam found in late sierras

Correct.

Another mod is to fit the head onto a 2L.

The 2.3 has balance shafts in it too. I guess it would be an idea to remove these. I've a 2.3 galaxy which is a cracking engine as long as its well serviced.

just tap the holes that you need to tap to take the rwd engine mounts, there are some differences but it's essentially the same engine turned sideways

remove sump, remove balancer shafts, fit blanking plug to stop oil supply to the balancer shafts, refit dohc sump

compression ratio goes up to 11.1:1 rather than the dohc's 10.3 or 9.8 depending on which engine you are using

you just need to make sure you've got a flywheel that will fit with the manal conversion as the clutch is way way different, i've got one int he garage somewhere i might be able to take a picte of

the heads will swap over no issues

but the compression ratios will be all over the place

with the 2.0 8v head on the 2.3 bottom end the compression ratio will be too high

and the 2.3 16v head on the 2.0 bottom end you may have issues with the bore being bigger and the seal not working properly in the head gasket fire ring

not really you could have a copper head gasket made by farriday engineering thicker than standard which would reduce comp ratio.

Just an idea.

If you have a current working dohc Sierra lump in there you can slot the 2.3 in and all you need to do is sort some wires out to shirt the coil packs out and you tweak the fueling and job done
