Help needed unlocking transit 61plate
We've got a 61 plate transit at work which will not unlock the drivers door with the key (been stood for months).am I right in thinking that the auxiliary battery under the bonnet controls the central locking and just either charging or putting a boaster pack onto that should open the door.also the key remote part is bonded and doesn't contain a battery so does the remote get charged when in the ignition barrel?

Yeh the key gets charged off the barrel. The keys normaly need coding in at a ford dealer. Put a boost pack on the engine lift ring and on the stud under the red plastic bit near the fuse box.
Surely the key should open the door by using the barrel.

Make sure to use the positive jump conection, and not directly on the battery
sometimes the ECU throws a woppy when jumping off the battery and they go spare. I beleive the seperate positive terminal under the bonnet has a surge protection on it and isnt directly wired to the ecu
Had major problems with this and our jump packs when I worked at Ford when the new Mondeo came out, its not certain fact it will throw a woppy, but it has happend
there should be a terminal with a cap on it, and a large gauge live only going to the conection

There something wrong with the barrel you can put the key in and turn it either way but it doesn't open.luckily we think it's not dead locked as the alarm doesn't go off when the bonnet is open

If you cant get in the van the only other thing to do is either drill the barrel out or smash the window.
Ive drilled loads of barrels out where I work then you can put a screw driver down the barrel and open the door.

glenn is the barrel just like a normal ford barrel then that would just need replacing as someone says that its connected to the central locking in a big plastic cover ect

Na its just like a normal barrel matey to take the barrel out properly you have to take the door card off pull the U shaped locating clip that comes out then you put the key in the barrel and turn it so far and there is a square spring locating button that needs pushing in then you just twist the barrel round and it comes of the door locking mechanism.

just stick loads of wd40 or the like into the barrel and let it soak the crud out
they don't get used so all the grease inside dries out which means when the battery goes flat the door can't open
been stood outside for an hour and 40 minutes so i've learnt my lesson the ahrd way when i left my jacket inside and it was cold out

last year i had a 2007 tranny needing a door, screen and wing,i bought all the bits and in the time it took to leave to get them the daft fuckers at the bodyshop got shut of my old damaged parts.
anyway i get the van repaired and drive it away and the next day the remote won't work and then the fun starts,as my new door had a lock off another van and as my old was was chucked i could not get into the van as it didn't have any other locks to unlock........ fa fucks sake i couldn't get into me own van
anyway i put the ket in me airing cupboard overnight and tried it the next day and the battery in the key must of liked it as it opened the van up
if you don't use them and can't open the drivers door on the lock or the van is against a wall etc your pretty much fucked unles you have a charged spare key and whoever thought charging the key battery up off the steering coloumn was a good idea needs a good belting....

If its not dead locked dont smash a window or drill the barrel

you need one of these, it goes in the door jam at the top, pump it up, then get a piece of microbore copper pipe and go fishing for the handle. if its not dead locked you'll get in without smashing or damaging anything. Use microbore copper pipe because its as long as you need it, strong enough to hold its shape ounce bent, but plyable enough to bend it against something inside the car to change the shape to get too the handle
There are other ways to get in also, depending on what extras it has, but not sure I should post em up here lol!

you don't need them airbags when you can use a cheese wedge shaped bit of wood, pull the door top back and wedge a pair in,if you don;t want to mark the paint use them wrapped in a cloth. cheaper than 30 odd sovs and the green alternative.
the other way to pull door handles is to use a ford bonnet prop off somthin like a sierra or escort, they are long enough to go across the vehicle and pull the handle but no good if dead locked

all sorted, just wedged the door and went fishing for the handle .think the keyfobs knackered as its not charging in the ignition and the van was a salvage vehicle so only had 1 key.as cozzfather said the idea is a right pain in the arse!
