The mk6 R is hands down a much better car than a mk2 FRS,
Haldex pumps can fail on the transmission, but this is rare. The S3 is a good bombproof box and engine.
my little bro chopped his e60 m5 in for one was an awesome little car, sounded like a rally car on full blip awesome cars!
that blue colour it was a 2011 one
My bosses s3 (09-59 plate i think) only done 20k ish miles been serviced on time and correctly has a hidious whine in 4th gear wich is getting worse.took it into audi several times while under warrenty and they said there wasnt a problem every time it went there.now he took it back last week and left it with them (still hasnt got it back) and there now saying it requires a new gearbox.£4600+vat for the gearbox then £130+vat an hour for however long to replace.apparently audi warrenty wont cover it so he is fighting with them at the moment.perhaps his is just 1 in a million to have gone wrong but audi arnt seeming very helpfull at all.
The Golf is ten times nicer to be in, 4wd, better balanced.
You have driven them both, right?
I have yes.
The golf has a great engine, (incedentally the same engine as my skoda) haldex drives mainly like fwd to me, it certainly doesn't power oversteer so drives much like fwd with better traction
The focus is just more exciting and characterful to me.
As a tool for taking a road apart they both are behind the Megane 265
I'd want to own the focus tho for the bludgeon of power and the character
As I said each to their own but the golf is not hands down better, it's marginal which is 'best' and wholly subjective but there isn't a large gap
