At 350/370bhp standard internals are fine, up rated rs focus clutch kit and convert your car to hydro clutch to suit

Then you just need manifolds and turbo, management, job done

The oil pump in a mk1 frs always seems better than a rebuilt zetec turbo too, how many people have you heard say their oil pump failed on their frs?

If you are fitting rods and pistons then you might aswell aim for 400bhp

I,d use a cvh american tall block with liners to 1750cc,offset crank, steel rods pistons etc nms head and cam standard exhaust manifold modified inlet ,1000cc injectors gt30 and watch it rip the inner wings apart lol 400 hp

Sounds good to me! How hard is it to get the tall block now though?

No need for liners of any type in the tall block - putting liners in a thin bore block will break through the water jacket. One now has a structurally weak block. these blocks were not designed for liners (as many aluminum blocks these days are).
The tall block is at 1870cc with 88mm stroke crankshaft.

The cvh head is a limiting factor for big power. First there is the air flow - which can be ported to flow more than a standard zetec. The second limitation is high rpm reliability.
pulled rocker studs etc..

You can certainly make a big power cvh ( I love these), you just need more boost because of cylinder head flow limitations and rev limitations. More boost typically means less ultimate reliability. I haven't seen anyone split a cvh block in two, or break a crankshaft yet - even at big power. The damage is usually piston failure, bearing failure or connecting rod failure - maybe oiling pump issues at extreme revs?

hopefully a 4g63 mated to a frs but as i only have certain tools at my disposal and the last person to do it said they'd not do it again ill have to wait and see if its possible to do in your own garage with a Ł1500 budget

heres whats been done to gearbox so far

once i'm a little further on i'll start a project thread on it and a big thank you to gary for all the nights were putting in as to even get to there has taken 3 gearboxs and several days as a lot of trial and error desiging a box to have all the bits inside it i wanted

Im thinking crazycage manifolds (if I can get hold of him), gt28 turbo or similar and a set of rods/pistons for added reliability. Just need to choose some management for it. So, if anyone knows of an engine and box for sale please pass their details on. thanks
I may have the lot for sale soon, focus rs engine, gearbox ecu etc.

Never seen a tall block split they have better webbings and less core plugs, love to stu but just made the focus all steel no time for my new turbo and wastegate set up as its n day soon been concentrating on that pal prob c ya there .
ive got a s1 block on standard bore if anyone needs 1 , which would be stronger than the normal cvh as its thicker walled but they still split lol

use to love the old daddy thrashes with tim, ollie, christian, stu and chicken in his xr2 all running

was very surprised by sean (turbobos) red frst. he use to gingerly pull off the line and then once moving he would nail it and still do 10 sec. to 100mph

who's good with zetec turbo engines these days then? Back in the day it would have been ian howell, is he still going? And next question is management and who to map, don't mind travelling for the right person. Would probably want management that can provide digital dash as well to tie everything together.

devil developments are rated well for zetec turbos at the moment

but for your target power just buy a frs tall block with box and clutch set up included, add a tubular manifold and gt28, injectors and ecu and you will see a solid 330bhp+ all day long

Indeed, simply can't be done from a magazine point of view anymore. Had it good for so long when it came to stuff like that but that format isn't feasible anymore. Unless someone else organises it and magazines will happily attend.

Devil Developments are the best Zetec turbo builders at the moment without a doubt IMO.

yeah, think that's the route I'll go down, inlet and exhaust manifold from crazycage and let devil rebuild the engine and give it a few tweaks here and there to suit.
cheers

Don't think the fords are interested in TOTB any more which is a shame, for the past few years there have only been like 1 or 2 fords. There were quite a few at totb 1 2 and 3, but after that its been hardly any.
