depends how much cash i got when got eveythin else
atm ive got ported head with bd15 and 10 cams gt35 but may change it to gtx3076 depends on cash garys doin manifold bringing turbo to the front by pass headlight prob 3.5 in down pipe and 3in system ext waste gate out front bumper , got 50mm jenvey singles with 70mm plenum and 8 injectors but dont no if it will go in so may be swedish plenum with 3in body , just need to sell the standard 205 engine i have when finished mocking up and build a bottom end if got enough cash

Thinking out aloud, mating a gearbox to a different engine is going to be costly, timely and probably a pain in the arse. So it would be nice to stick with a combination that were meant to actually fit. So, as was brought up earlier, what about a mk2 frs engine and box? Box is plenty strong enough and I'm sure with new turbo and management and fuelling the engine would be easy 350bhp+ and reliable with it. BUT, will that extra cylinder make the engine physically too big for the bay? Ive been trying for the last hour to find some dimensions for the engine (block) but seemingly the information isn't there to be had. Does anyone know if someone has tried it and failed or even looked at doing it and worked out any obvious pitfalls?

Think you will find a mk2 frs engine and box can take 470bhp on standard internals
And the only thing that can't keep up is the standard clutch, they seem to let go above 460lbs or there abouts
To get the above power only requires
Hybrid turbo
Forge actuator
Free flowing exhaust
Cias induction system
650/750cc injectors
Up rated fuel pump
Up rated boost solenoid
Inlet plenum change
Intercooler
And to get 400bhp and 400/450lbs only requires
Free flowing exhaust
Cias air box
650cc injectors
Inlet plenum
Remapp
Intercooler

It would be the smart option as it will handle the power and the transmission will also be capable too. Just need to work out if it will fit now. Without offering one up I cant imagine it been an easy call to make and by that point if it doesn't fit it'll be going in the boot

it would be alot of work.......... my opinion would (as i would do)
fit a complete focus rs mk1 running gear with shafts and mounts from crazycage and then get a nice stack dash to work with the electronic speedo.
and for mods to get 350bhp (which standard internals are fine)
free flowing exhaust system 3"
forge actuator
grs cooler or better
siemens injectors
pumaspeed inlet cam (better low down drivability)
tubular exhaust manifold with either johnfrs hybrid or gt28
but for the sheer look and quality i would get a crazycage inlet and and over the gearbox exhaust manifold with either a gtx28 or a borg warner efr turbo to suit
and your choice of management, and it will be near on bullet proof
theres a guy on here running 390bhp with the stock bottom end

^ plus we know it will fit. In all fairness it does sound like the easiest/best compromise. Whats a set of rods and pistons? About 1k? So with them in place a tune of say 350-380 would be happy all day long and should be enough for a stripped out old knacker
like the sound of it, and like you say with the crazycage manifolds it would also look the part, cos in standard fettle they do look a bit gash (I know looks don't mean shit but I want to be happy when I open the bonnet).

if it the same one, I have seen that black ''s1'' with focus rs motor/box. irc it was 270hp but was properly cornerweighted/set up and during a trackday at cadwell was visibly quicker than most stuff there that day. a really well thought out bit of kit

dont think you get what im saying, the mk1 frs engine does not require any internals changing for the desired output you want
hence why i said buy a full running gear, and you can spend money on goodies to complement the conversion instead of forged internals ect
a focus rs engine with just a free flowing exhaust, decent intercooler and airfilter and actuator will make near 300bhp on aftermarket management, reason they dont on normal management is the standard map sensor only likes 1.5bar
it would be the easist conversion of the lot, no rebuild needed, you could fit it all in and get it running on your desired ecu and upgrade turbos and manifolds later
so all that would be needed is the mods above
gearbox mounts and driveshafts
a speedo set up
mod your engine mount
ecu set up
and fit a decat and mod to your exsisting exhaust system

You can get mtx box's with the Speedo drive same as bc box so no need to by expensive gear plus its slightly shorter so might get away with no cutting of shell and you can drop a atb straight in and on the subject of engine I'd rather by a standard blacktop and put a set of rods and pistons in it as people want alot for rs engine and with my way its future proof should you want to up the power

All of this discussion gets away from the main topic - Ultimate CVH.
Sure there are many ways to get a more reliable, more powerful, more modern engine into a MK4 escort.
A well built CVH looks proper under the bonnet. (just my opinion).

from what my mates have I think that once you get above and beyond 300bhp reliablilty and drivability becomes a huge issue. Im sure everyone remembers the "DMAN" who was after the magic 300, well he got it in the end but the amount of time it held that power was a tad short.
Cant believe no one has picked up on gus's car, what are the figure again mate? post your graph pal, field motorsport created that monster and its been very reliable as far as I know, also no one has mentioned MK's mk2 fiesta again a fms creation.
I only here good things from their custromers and their cars no seem to get shouted about, just totally abused on track without issue which is a good sign of a competent tuner/build spec etc.
Project RS/CrazycageMcPumpkinsexycheeks are also a good source of info as Projects escort was at the 300 mark but with fantastic on and off boost drivability.
When Crazycage gave me a go of his fiesta at pod to drive to Tesco I pretty much threw the keys back at him at Tesco's the speed of the thing scared the crap out of me to say the least

thanks for the comments raj but the only thing i wanted to do the little cvh was try it with a spot of nitrous to get the turbo up and running quicker to see what it felt like then but other things beat me too it and those who know me know that the new set up is far from standard but should be interesting as we know the new set up is capable of 1000bhp as many run that and more but i'll keep it sensible as its fwd when it comes down to it. the spec of my cvh was
cosworth racing pistons (7.8 compression)
farndon rods
arp bolts
t34 with both .48/.55 housings
crazycage inlet
crazycage exhaust manifold
one off newman ground cam to suit turbo
custom head by same guy who does stu collins
custom intercooler
standalone management
as raj said was running good numbers for several years being abused daily as a road car and several weekends running up the strip at pod by me and anyone willing to give it a go

I've got a N/A CVH in the garage waiting for a new homeif anyone if interested? It's got a Ferriday fully ported large valve head,Newman phase 4 cam with solid lifters, L&B bottom end with heavy dutybearings, and powermax (if I recall) pistons.
The engine comes complete with AP 4paddle clutch, heavy dutypressure plate and RS1600i rocker cover.
Fuelling it'll come with a set of twin bike carb conversionand also a 34DMTR with 27mm chokes.
I’ve also got a custom Newman cam that I used for roadrallying that can go with it.
No longer needed as I’ve gone to stage rallying and fitted aZetec-SE in it’s place!J

i was always led to believe that zvh's aren't great due to the cvh is the limiting factor
thats why a lot of places are getting same power out a 1.6 as a 1.8/2.0
but i see jimbo at scs has just had 402bhp out a zvh so they are capable of flowing big enough power
so a cvh or zvh is defo possible even if you want big power but with the original cvh look

Well, ive been mulling it over and I think im going mk1 FRS engine and box. Just ticks all the boxes for me and as its been done already shouldn't take too long to get everything together. If I went EVO engine it would take forever as I don't get that much time at home at present. Im thinking crazycage manifolds (if I can get hold of him), gt28 turbo or similar and a set of rods/pistons for added reliability. Just need to choose some management for it. So, if anyone knows of an engine and box for sale please pass their details on. thanks

if your going to be putting rods and pistons in mate then get a bogo 2.0 or buy a frs lump and leave it on standard internals as these are ok at 350+
