Default escort van - intercooled td conversion - need help!

Hi all, I've got an escort van 55 1.8 non turbo diesel and an escort car with the turbo - intercooled engine.

I want to put the car engine, loom and ECU in the van - and use the van gearbox and subframe.

I know the td gearbox box and subframe are different from the non turbo van. And I know I can physically mate the engine I want to the gearbox I want without issue.

What I want to know is this:

I have read that the intercooled ECU takes a feed from a crank sensor and I think this is mounted on the flywheel, not the crank pulley?

So will the non turbo box (IB5) take the crank sensor from a turbo box (MTX)?

Thanks in advance!

if your dropping the engine/box out you might aswell fit the TD stuff

i wouldnt run a TD with the IB5, just not worth the issue!

but yes it will bolt in, if you use a mk4 fiesta flywheel

Thanks for the reply

I want to use the IB5 box because of the ratios. And also it means not having to change the subframe. Its less of an issue to use the existing box and subframe from the van rather than change the whole lot over. You can use the flywheel and clutch out of the van/IB5 and bolt them onto the td.

I just need to know if there is a way to run the td and all existing wiring etc with or without the crank sensor?

What I mean is - will the crank sensor fit into the IB5 box or is it possible to run the engine without it?

Use the clutch and fly off the na engine and bolt it in as you would with the na.. my last td engine was tuned and ran on an ib5 with out any issues. .. but personally I would just use the box set up that the td should have..

the TDI engine will run fine with just 2 live feeds to the fuel solenoid , IE no ECU or crank sensor , its still a fully mechanical engine

I'm sure I read somewhere about there being something electrical on the pump (besides the stop) is that an injection advance or something along those lines? I'd much rather go down the route of no ecu and an ib5 box but not if it means sacrificing power/reliability.

Can anyone tell me exactly what electrical connections are on this pump. It's a 1999 escort td with an intercooler. There is a plug on top which looks like it is adjustable by rotation with 3 wires going it (if I remember correctly)

And also can anyone catagorically 100% tell me if the blocks and heads are the same (including pistons and compression ratios) on the turbo and non turbo models?

Cheers

Thanks very much it'd be really good to know. I've checked autodata and it says the compression ratios are the same on the non turbo, turbo, and intercooled turbo engines.

This leads me to believe they are all the same, but it'd be great to hear from someone that they KNOW they are the same!
