No panic yet as the old ml is chuffing along swimmingly but chatting with the missus today as we were planning on getting a newer merc ml but tbh having a good look on t'internet they don't seem to be a very good motor and very expensive when they go wrong.
Also, being the thick end of £12/13000 for a not so special model I decided to see what's out there for around the £10k mark and stumbled upon the above merc CLS'.
They seem awesome value, the 3.0 derv is a great motor as well plus I think they look sheer class.
She's ruled out Audi's which I'm not really arguing with as their beautiful cars but I think they don't have any "soul".
My choice would probably be a m5 rep 5 series derv,I've seen a few around the £10-12k mark.
Is their anything to really watch for on these?

Yeah I think that's the appeal really!!!
Thing is where we live a 4x4 is great about 1 month of the year if we're unlucky with snow plus these things do 35 plus mpg as well, over 40 on a run.
Very tempting,I really love the shape.
Would look real evil on big amg black alloys or even get an old mans burgundy one and white wrap it.

It won't do huge mileages either, and won't go anywhere much in the summer.
Your Beemer cab is lovely,we have an old e36 one hence she'll be out in that in the summer.
I'm (finances pending) getting d-sports escos first but this merc will be more towards this time next year.

My uncle had the very same one, black CLS320 CDI...put it this way, he likes to change his cars every few years, bought a brand new Merc E350 CDI AMG Estate loaded to the rafters, trading that in soon for something else but still keeping the CLS because it is the only car he has had that he said he actually wants to keep. Lovely cars inside and out. Can't go wrong really although I couldn't tell you what goes wrong on these. I've not heard from him of any hefty repair bills and he knows I'm a car nut so generally tells me all his car related stories.

You'd be amazed how good that Estate is. Looks the part too and goes well and has all the toys. Would actually like to have it! Need to go wash my mouth out now and bang me head on the wall. Diesel Estate bleugh!

The old man had one a couple of years back in the dark red, fantastic car and like Richie said, looks much more expensive!
We had the 320 and the torque was awesome.
The only thing I could knock was when we drove down to south of France, there was no comfortable way of sleeping in the back

I hated my ML and couldn't wait to get rid of it.
They look more modern but that's about it. I had nothing but problems with mine and it wasn't that old.
I'd have a CLS over an ML any day of the week, but then I'd have a BM'er over a Merc too

I've repaired pretty much everything myself though as their pretty easy to work on,turbo was pips.
The 535d would be the other choice as their really pretty but one forum says the mercs better and the other says the Beemer!!!
I'll have to take a look at the two and decide which one I want and is best...
Then get whatever one she really wants!!!

Certainly wouldn't have a Beemer over this, at least this is a nice place to sit unlike the dull BMW interiors.

Hmmmm, the ole' merc vs bm debate... I drove a e60 530d and a e270cdi back to back last year, i loved the merc it excelled in everything i did, the bm just left me cold and bored, although i reckon the e60 is the better looking car.
However, i bought neither in the end and bought an r32 golf!
