Default ST200 running problem

Hi,

i've owned a st200 estate for over 4 years now, but its developed a intermittant fault and i have no idea what it could be.

the fault is that when i'm driving along at 70 on the motorway, the car will cut out for a split second, ie, the radio goes off and i get the ignition lights on the dash. if it wasn't for the radio going off, you wouldn't even notice as its that quick.

also if i'm accelerating quite hard it will do the same thing at the higher rev range.

i had a none ford alternator fitted about 2 years ago and i've had this fault for over a year now, could the 2 be related as i've heard st200's have a different regulator to other v6's?

any help would be great

cheers Matthew

Had a similar issue on Mondy tdci - it was a loose + battery terminal. Simple but cured the problem that occured twice months appart.

They are known for this and it is usually a loose connection in the instrument cluster that causes it. Had it on two of my four 200's and couldn't believe it when we finally located the fault.
