Default i've just bought a 530d oops

it's a great car but i think i've made a mistake

it's been economically written off after being involved in a shunt with a bus so it needs a vic (?) it's had a little bump on the rear and a little bump on the front as it was the 5th car that was rear ended by the bus

drives fine and other than that it's spot on

the problem now has arisen that i don't have anywhere to put it, nor the time to get the vic done, nor any idea what i'm supposed to do to get it done and then i've got to tax it and stuff

so i'm now considering selling it on, but i'm probably going to fall foul of the pf rules about selling things you've only just bought 15 minutes ago while thinking about the terrible loss to arsenal

vic test is easy just book it with dvla you dont need to have the damage repaired first its just to make sure it has not been rung with another car

that's the damage from the transit that hit it at the back

and the jag that he then rear ended put a dent in the kidney bit of the bonnet

that is the sum total of the damage

and seeing as the bus company have now given him a cheque i'm not even sure it is an "official" write off

how do i check?

vic check is another money making scam. had a volvo v70 done a couple of years ago and tester lifted bonnet, looked at plate and said it's ok. didn't even look for stamp on chassis. Ł45 for 30 seconds "work" ???? you will need to trailer it to the test station.

not true, my wife always make sure when renewing or changing insurers and she did just that on the 12th of this month and she can drive any vehicle not owned by her (drives cars home for me)
the only stipulation is roadworthyness to be covered

don't need repairing if i'm honest, i'd drive it around as is

it was only last year that chip etc were on about them selling for Ł2k all day long so Ł600 is a nice round figure for me

still got no where to park it though

and one of my insurance policies says i'm not allowed to drive any other vehcile that's not owned by my but the other says i can if i'm not the owner "but" the vehicle must be insured in it's own right by the owner

How do you know that's all he did when the vic test cannot be watched?

If that's all he did, then he did not complete the vic test.

Are you sure about this?

Reason I ask is being young (at the time I was below 20) I specifically went with a certain someone who offered me this privilege, as it normally only applies if you over 25, but even so, less and less companies are now offering this.

The condition was car could not registered to you, was roadworthy, you have the owners permission, and was insured by the owner, along with other rules such as you can't tow, it can't have more than 8 seats etc.

So if your saying it does not need to be insured, how does this work then when the car is parked on the road for example, as that means it's not insured?

Wrong, the mot is completely valid, its just insurance companies generally "recommend" you get ANY car thats been written off (c or d ) re-mot'ed but its most definately not invalid.

People keep getting confused with cat c and d, it has NOTHING to do with damage severity, only financial costraints at best but more often than not simply down to the assessor checking it.

Not all cat c's require a VIC test, cat c vans don't full stop.

Believe me, I was in the accident damage trade.
