Hi guys,
I have a little question for you all that i could do with some help answering.
Do I sell my Saph Cossie project and buy something I would be able to use?
I have had thoughts of buying a Series 2 RSturbo that's a runner, I've fellen in love with them lately and they're so cheap at the minuete. I will be gutted if the sapphire goes but for the price that's its going to cost to get it on the road I could buy a Turbo.
Any opinions appreciated guys!
CheeRS,
Lewis

What happened to you not giving up ? Imo I wouldn't of took that size of project on at your age but if you did finish it you could be like ' I rebuilt this '
Only you will make your mind up all said and done

I know that would be the best Steve but its all as an investment, RS Turbos are really cheap now, I'm sure the prices will go up again in a few years, and i would let my dad use it until I was old enough to use it. I know it would be best to get a normal car other then a performance car. I see where you're coming from mate.

Mr Jackson, I just feel it would take me years to get it on the road, I would prefer it to be in the hands of someone that will get it on the road. With me it will be there in about 8 years, and at 24 I would want to get it used.
Don't bother with either.Get a lower spec car first,i wish i had listened when i was your age instead of blowing every penny i had on a shitbox XR4x4 thinking it was brilliant when in fact it was a pile of shite.
You might get lucky with a classic policy on the insurance side of things but i can't see it personally.
I'd be looking at something like this if i were you,i know it's ended but it's just an example.

16 Dan.
Is said above it will be an investment, my idea was to get the Cossie built then into storage, but I just feel I can't get it done, and with a RS Turbo I could let my dad drive it, I can still enjoy it even though I won't be able to drive it.

To be fair mate I wouldn't of touched a cossie until I'm 23. Even an RS turbo is pushing it. If I was in a position to have a project I would go for an old skool classic like a 'Tina or maybe a Corsair (Bloody cheap at the moment) and fix up over a few years and get a fiesta for a first car.
nothing wrong with a lookalike rs/xr at your age lewis ,as said a bonus rs/xr rep ,a little xr2 rep a mk3 fiesta turbo rep .dont count on the saff being an investment only the very best low mile ones will be worth very much in the future i reckon

I'd stick with it Lewis. The way prices of RS fords are , you won't get the chance to have a cosworth again unless you hit the jackpot. Forget about getting a fast car as your first road car too (I made that mistake). Stick with the saff as a long term project i say
16 and have a Cosworth?
Fair play to you!
Seriously though, Cosworths are only getting rarer and you'll regret it if you sell up.
I'm in a similar boat only 18 and have an E36 in storage at the moment, It's only a 318is but I'v about €3k in it so far. I'm gonna slave away at it and eventually I'll put it on the road.
Keep your Cosworth in storage and build it up to something really special and buy a dirt cheap 1.1 Mk3 Fiesta and slam it on some retro wheels and use that for when you turn 17.

It's a Sapphire shell though - It's not like it's a concourse car!
Realistically it's never going to be worth very much and it's not going to appreciate much either.
You'd be better binning the Sapphire now, then in a few years if you still want one - buy a complete one.

It's only a investment if you can sell it Lewis and why would you want to sell something that you had put years worth of work in to it ?????
I would get rid now mate and maybe think of MK1 Fiesta sleeper mode
You have all the enthusiasm in the world but like Matt has said, it can't be done on a limited budget
choose something that can

You wont be able to insure ANY RS for a good price before 21.
Unless youre earning shit loads and can soak up the silly insurance, i see no sensible reason to buy a different performance car until youre older.
The sensible thing to do would be build up the cossie over the next few years and when youve passed your test, drive a shitter to build up no claims and driving experience.
If youre clever with youre money and save a bit so you can buy cheap cossie bits for cash when they come up on here or ebay etc then you will be able to build up the cossie for sensible money by getting a good deal on the big and rare bits by having some cash to spare at the right time.
I presume youre doing all the labour yourself and with youre mates? if so its a good hobby and youll learn shit loads along the way.
Also when you do get the car on the road, it will likely be more reliable as youll know it inside out so it wont be bodged to fuck.
you buy a old second hand RS turbo and you will spend most youre spare time fixing it up, while being broke paying for insurance at a young age.

just lost all love for it bud, fed up of seeing it everyday just sat there doing nothing. The excitement died many months ago, I can see it being off the road for many many years. I just want something I can enjoy looking at, enjoy going out in. Dong get me wrong I would love to get it on the road, I'm just going to struggle to get it there. It's only a investment if you can sell it Lewis and why would you want to sell something's that you had put years worth of work in to it ?????

Keep at it imo. If you sell i can see you regretting it. Although like everyone says it will be a bitch to insure. I dont see why your giving up though. I in theory should have given up with my sierra, but i just keep on going. Why dont you just have a long and hard think, write the pros and cons of selling up then make your decision.
Just my 2 pence
Just my 2 pence
Fuck it off, as said above it was never going to be done.
Are you selling all the bits? As I thought you got given a lot of it
And if you think a S2 is going to be an investment...
I agree with the other comments, forget about fast stuff until you're 23/24 unfortunately

I would sell up, unless you have the space to but it on the back burner and do bits as and when. If you plan on it being your first/only car then I reckon get rid, get test passed and get a cheap banger to run around in. The money it would cost to run/insure a performance car like a Cosworth could easily slip you into debt and you'd be spending all money on that and not going travelling or out having fun.
Punt it. No point wasting money you don't have on something you realistically won't drive for a decade.
If I was 17 and had to buy a first car now, I'd go for a MK5 Fiesta Van. Fit coilovers, fix the rust, ZetecS bumpers/skirts/spoiler, Escos wheels, Recaros and a basic but decent stereo set up.
If I was 16 and at college, I'd forget about cars until I could drive one and concentrate on trying like a dragon to fingerbang every bit of slice that moved around the college instead.
Cheers,
Grant
