Default coilpack headache

have done the msd conversion on my 4x4 saph as per instruction

but the car fires up but it doesnt run right it sounds like the timings out/firing wrong

ive fitted new plugs and leads and its made no diffrance

it will backfire a little and doesnt want to rev above 2k(estimated as rev counter not working)

any idea?

only thing i can think of is faulty driver

bought that secondhand

Sounds like a phase issue - check you have the phase sensor plug / wires the correct way round.

cant the phase sensor plug only fit 1 way mate?

or do the wires have to be changed after fitting coilpack

also what does everyone do with old coil wiring?

Not sure what sort of wiring job you did. If it was just plug 'n' play then the plugs should be the correct way round if ya not touched them.

Coil wires - just hide them away, don't cut them off as you may wish to revert back to coil some day.

Could be a faulty ignition amp
Are you sure you connections to the ecu plug are correct?

Are the leads on correct?

Make sure the wires are correct in the connector then - 1st job I'd do mate. Might do well to buzz them out to the ecu - can remember the correct configuration at the moment.

Will have a look at a wiring diagram if I can find one tonight. Ya could just swap em over - won't hurt and it will eliminate it too from your investigations.

I've had a problem with coil packs labelled up wrong try writing down plug lead location then imagine turning sticker round 180° then put leads on.1 goes where 4 was 3 goes where 2 was 4 goes where 1was and 2 goes where 3 was .
Worth try anyhow

Tried reversing phase sensor plug but it only goes 1 way.tried changing leads about aswell

Still no joy

Strange that it had spark at all 4 leads and start up but sounds like a subaru

Sure the map sensor is ok? This might be causing it to run rough and lumpy.

never mixed any plugs up i just took the phase sensor one off and put back on again

map sensor is fine, car ran perfect before removing coil and going wastedspark

ive unplugged one ign amp and it fired up on 2 cylinders as it should, turned car off and unplugged that one and put other back in,cranked it and wouldnt start on two

so i then tried the plug that fired 2 on the amp that never and it fired on 2

tried this again with other plug on both amps and wouldnt start,so id of thought one plug isnt getting what it needs to fire

but i cranked over with plugs out and they all fire

opened ecu and checked connections for the 8th time, everything is ok in there

it sounds like all 4 cylinders are firing at the same time instead of 2?

Have now belled out pin 21 and 26 and they were reversed.would this sound right to the engine firing but sounding like all 4 were firing all the time? Ive now changed them over and it just cranks over now and doesnt start

Any ideas?could this of damaged ecu.driver amps etc?

Have you tried turning it over with all four plugs out and connected to the leads? What order do they fire? Should be visible firing in pairs 1 and 4, 2 and 3.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you unplug the injectors when you do this.
