cos having the hose rubbing against the car can scratch the paint / laquer...found this out with the air hoses, now maek sure they go under the car and tyre "pins" the hose down so it doesn't retract .

Wait a minute, on closer inspection when driving earlier, i noticed the actual picture of the pump on the gauge is in the centre of the gauge BUT to the left of the needle(which is on the right of the gauge) so i guess its correct for me then after all

Its a 98 Civic VTi

That's why I just hold the loose hose in my other hand while refuelling, so it's clear of the body work.

Same as fast guy said. I just hold the hose in the air away from my car to prevent scratching. should start wearing gloves though as my hands always stink of diesel after lol

ive never came across a pump yet that didnt reach the other side and i fill up 3 times a week with the miles i do.

As stu said, they normally have an arrow on the petrol pump symbol, some cars used to have the spout on the same side as the filler cap too.

I always thought the filler was on the opposite side to where the back box is?
