phone up police, ask to talk to road safety officer and let him know you think he/she has a faulty Gatso. you must be completely dead pan for delivery. Explain what happened and ask if they are going to fix it? see what response is.

Honeycone cell backed numberplates are brilliant and proven, also very hard for the authorities to spot it as its subtle and very reflective it helps alot with those pesky cameras, and also ive been flashed before and received nothing in the post at all, maybe some are just deterent and havent got any film in them ?

they don't use film now its all digital and the data is not normally kept within the gatso as it then becomes a target!

Well technically doesn't red/amber mean get ready to move and green means go?

you wont win if it was red and amber when you went through the stop line.

From highway code:
RED AND AMBER also means ‘Stop’. Do not pass through or start until GREEN shows
just because its common practice for people to start to move on red and amber doesnt make it legal sadly.

I'm afraid you are spot on. 3 points, Ł60 fine and a TS10 (iirc) on your licence

people forget that the purpose of the red and amber is just to let you know that the green is about to follow. ie the idea being if youre sat on the line in neutral, feet off the pedals, it gives you enough time to sort your feet out, select 1st and be ready to pull away immediately the lights go green.

Its deffo a tickit im affraid, no point fighting it as stated earlier its an offence in itself to go through on red amber,
not all the red light cameras are digital yet , unless it was a redspeed redlight camera.
anything above 5mp traviling throught a red or a red amber light will cause the camera to take a violation photo, if you were doing 20mph on a red amber they will argue that you wouldent have stopped before the line on a straight red.
hope this helps .
if you do fight it ask to see its calibration cetificate and ask to see the records of its last maintanance visit , if it hasent had one in the last 3 - 6 months you may be able to argue that it hasent been maintaind properly
in some cases if you argue the points and fine and you loose your case then you may end up with a bigger fine
thanks
Paul

I read that insurers are harder on red light offences than speeding, because they think the driver is prepared to take more risks. No idea if that is correct though.

do some Insurance quotes to try and gauge it, for me I have 8 points from 2 offences each one makes about Ł150 difference

wont make a single bit of difference as the photographic evidence stands on its own merit regardless of how it was obtained. As long as you can see his car over the line and the red light, then he will be convicted no matter how badly maintained the camera is.

Its not like speed cameras where you can argue calibration is relevant. Even with speed cameras, you are only likely to get away with the old calibration trick where its a marginal speeding case. Anything massively over then the magistrate wont give a fuck. The camera might be 1 or 2 mph out but whats 1 or 2mph if youre caught at 30 over the speed limit

if you believed the government and the road safety crackpots, jumping a red or doing 33 in a 30 makes you worse than a nonce

I got the same for amber turning to red. There was about an inch of my rear bumper over the line when the light turned red so the unmarked copper riding my back bumper told me. Told me even driving through an amber is a fine.

3 points, Ł60. Didn't affect insurance.

amber means this:

AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident

A single amber means proceed with caution doesnt it??????
But as you went through a amber/red you'll have a ticket coming your way by the looks of it, sorry bud :-((

Should have stopped as the guy behind shouldn't be so close to you as to not be able to stop when you do

You MUST stop behind the white ‘Stop’ line across your side of the road unless the light is green. If the amber light appears you may go on only if you have already crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to stop might cause a collision.

From your described situation, deffo a fair cop sadly. For reference amber means go to me too (unless it's dangerous to do so for all the clenched up ready to pounce safety butt monkeys about to jump on me )

One of the reasons I skipped through the lights, was too busy wondering why this astra had been sat on my bumper for over a mile!

Plus as someone said, if the light turned red as I went through it then he should have had his lights and siren on which he didn't. So he jumped through a clean red.
