Read the post above. That report came to a generic upper limit of 90dB
But you are correct, many older vehicles will have no specific data available for reference.
It sounds like at the minute they are just using this for easy fines.....mmm bit like most motoring offences really.

As I said Id buy a new exhaust because of the marker issued and if it comes around again use the fact you have a new exhaust as a defence anything else i.e adding another box will not taken into account if you get an awkward cop.

what i would do.
get a receipt for the exhaust you have from scorpion, if youve lost it call them and ask for them to send you one via email, also ask them to put a date to show that youve changed the exhaust for a new one if you get pulled again.
when they see the new receipt they will probably take you off the system, if not then they cant charge you for anything because youve clearly bought and fitted a new one.
if all fails, maybe lower the boost which i would be very pissed off about as i would feel like an inmate in otherwise a free country governed by total nonsense, i wouldnt do it but you may have to, and the other way is to actually buy a new system or mid section to baffle the noise more which personally would piss me off aswell.

the noise volume is the "defect" not the exhaust itself. If you repacked the back box and that reduced it sufficiently then the cops couldnt do fuck all. Even if it is 100% visually identical such as with repackable silencers, again they cant do fuck all if the noise level isnt illegal.

Call scorpion systems and get a new slightly smaller box if the packing is all still inside then it leaves you with little choice other than the receipt idea i mentioned earlier or a new Box and or system which is in my opinion a complete piss take to have been made to do but at least the twats will fu** off your back . feel for your situation mate, trust me when i say it would piss me off beyond most things and id want to stab the next copper i see lol, fucking plod sometimes, cant live with em cant live without em.

I was pulled by the old bill last night on the way to a meet, told the exhaust was too loud and that the car had to be tested...
I pulled into a carpark where the police tested the volume of the exhaust, at idle and 4,000rpm. It was 98dB, apparently the limit is 80dB?
Ive been given 14 days to change the exhaust, £30 spot fine and the car has been logged on the ANPR database with a loud exhaust.
Can they do this?
What should i do, get the exhaust changed or leave it?

1) Neighbours won't think you are such a tool.
2) If they pull you again, and they simply don't like you, they do have the power to confiscate the car under section 59.
I replaced a very loud KMS Thunder storm with a decent Miltek the week after i bought my last car. It was embarrassing to drive, plus i worried about my car getting vandalised.

Now they have you tagged its best to get it sorted for several reasons:
1) Neighbours won't think you are such a tool.
2) If they pull you again, and they simply don't like you, they do have the power to confiscate the car under section 59.
