Default Vw help needed

I have been helping a friend with his 1.8turbo golf mk4.

He brought it round to mine as I have VAG-COM,

He had 2 lights on the dash, The emissions control light and the EPC.

I scanned the car and it showed MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR (G70) low reading,
I cleared the codes and scanned it again but the same fault was showing.

I got a new Bosch MAF and fitted it for him, then cleared the codes and both lights
went out and stayed out.

I re-scanned it and it was clear, no faults shown.

Its been running fine almost a week but now both the same lights are back on
and I scanned it again today to be greated with the above fault.

Mass airflow reading to low.

What would be causing it to knock out a new genuine Bosch MAF in just under a week?
And what does the EPC light have to do with the MAF?

any helo is appreciated

Hmm strange that, my emissions lights came on 2 weeks ago, turned out to be the O2 sensor, was checked on a Vas machine at VW dealership, fitted new sensor problem solved. Was also getting Boost surge have changed the N75 Valve which seems to have cured things.

The car runs but goes into limp mode after a while,

The new MAF cured it but its gone again now.

He has a cone filter on the car which is situation low down, Im wondering if
its sucking up dirt/oil and contamination the MAF?

I had this when I bought mine mate check all the pcv pipes and secondary air injection pipes for deterioration (ones under inlet and upto breathers) they were all fukt on mine. I changed them and put a new airflow meter on and its never given me grief since.

if the airflow meter and air filter are not secure it could rattle around and damage the air flow meter there very sensitive

air leak.

go and do a MOT emissions test and post results for me please

and you didnt buy a new MAF you bought a recon MAF (unless it was a dealer genuine they are all not worth a wank am afraid )

Also Lambda`s only have a maximum of 60,000miles life like a timing belt so if its done more than 60k, change the sensors for genuine Bosch ones ASAP (BOTH)
