Is it pointless?
right....just become a dad and been fancying a bigger car for a while now.
cant bring myself to sell the FRS as prices are rock bottom and i reckon at some point i would like to get back in it and use it again.
was thinking of declaring it sorn, then sticking it in the garage, insure it as fire and theft only and using the ncb on the new car (maybe a 530d)
but.....if in future i want to start using the FRS again in order to realistically insure it i will need the ncb and it will be all tied up.
have looked into multicar policys and they require 2 sets of ncb, i looked into insuring the BMW with )ncb and £2k+ a year
anyone got any good suggestions. cant really see me waiting for the FRS to become eligible for classic insurance anytime soon.
do you think i will just stick it in the garage and then at somepoint in the future i'll sell it anyway

advice welcome

Some insurance companies will honour your NCB on a second car and when I had an Admiral Multi-Car Policy then as long as the cars were registered in my own name, then I'm pretty sure they carried over my NCB... if they didn't then the prices were crazy low for some reason?!
...I'm sure we won't have to wait long to hear the immortal "Call Paul @ Need to Insure" chat roll out shortly though.

if i were looking for a bigger car i'd just sell up and buy another motor.
it will take time for the prices to rise and in that time the car will need attention, especially being locked up in a garage unless you are heating it and rotating tyres frequently.
as for insurance, whip the engine out and it won't technically be an auto-mobile as it has no way of being powered and should be covered with house insurance.
the choice is ultimately yours, i have a daft xr2, but between myself and the wife we also have a 206 xsi and a bora tdi sport, so a sensible family car is always at hand. I'm not sure i couldn't have the xr2 if all i had to hand was a sensible family car.
tough call, but there are still plenty of good rs's out there.

It is daft how you can have millions of years NCB on a policy yet get another car and most insurers will treat you and charge you the same as some idiot with 0 NCB, despite clearly you are less of a risk due to your crash free history and less mileage on each car as you have 2.
yet the cunts demand you tell them if you crash on another policy so both your policys (even the unclaimed on one) are increased......
I do hope the independant investigation on the industry highlights these unfair practices and forces them to change.

i have all my no claims on my mondeo, and the other insurance company mirrored them onto the evo
dont know how it works but they just ask for proof that you do have these no claims

expect renewal quotes to be higher, took my trader policy out on the 31st of august but if it was a day later it would have been £400 more,I pay £1300 a year but I have the rs turbo onit,my 07 astra van cdti and anything else I want on there upto group 17,thats with 0 ncb but they said this year even with 1 yrs no claims and I'll be 25 it will be more expensive,im only a Part timer trader ie no premisses or vat registered, bit off topic but worth bearing in mind that prices are rising

Wait, let me get this right you have one child and now your thinking of selling the FRS?
tbh it will be fine just not great on fuel, once you strap the car seat a 3rd is only annoying from the point of having to lean the chair forward and thats not exactly hard.

nah its not just the 3 door thing, using my RS daily means it gets scratched and bumped, the pram goes in and out of the boot and this will mark the rear bumper. i have kept the RS for 4 1/2 years now and want to keep it and take it off the road to restore it back to its former glory and this means another means of transport for me and my family.

Im looking to get a Volvo V70 D5 Estate ticks all the boxes for me and there not that pricey
110k miles, puts buyers off, also has a few scuff here and there, its been 100% faultless and i am only the second owner, my garage also know the first owner who had it from new.
it drives superbly and has some really nice mods, retrimmed wheel, mint refurbished alloys, 4-1 manifold that i wouldnt be able to take off and would lose in a sale. also there's the RS bug, after 6 months i'll want another one and wont be able to get a similar car, most have 5+ owners and they get sold on when faults occur.
it can sit in the garage doing nothing until i have time for it, but it would be nice to be able to use it again next year when funds allow
IF you can stick it in the garage and forget about it, then do this. As you say, you know the car and it will be easy to get back out and enjoy if the bug bites. Much easier than deciding to buy another and get it insured etc etc, you just wouldnt bother.
You may find after a year you dont really fancy using it anymore and sell up anyway, but, you drive an rs because you get a buzz from an rs, so may just find you hanker for that rs buzz.

I'm lost....
Just to confirm my understanding...
Your FRS is 100k + and you're concerned you wont get loads of money for it because the prices of these cars has dropped a lot in the recent few months.
So you want to plough loads into it and potentially use it as a second car in the future baring in mind it will still have 100k+ so that will be a waste of money.
But you can't afford (or don't want to) insure 2 cars at the moment because that will be a waste of money too.
But you will might do in the future.
Honestly my guess is you'll put it in the garage run it out of tax and test and then end up selling it for less anyways in a few years time.
If I was you I'd sell it now, looking at what the 100k+ cars are NOT selling for you're going to be looking at the top end of 4k, put some money too it and buy something else.
(or part chop it, maybe a dealer will give you more)
Ginge, whatever you do don't get caught up in thinking your car is worth a million pounds just because its a bloody FRS. They have a small appeal to only a few people and get beat hands down in the real world by most of the other hot hatches out there.
They're temperamental at best and will only get worse as they get older.
End of the day........ you'll do what you want to do anyways.

He will trust me. It's a way of escape, put him/her in the car and go for a drive. Gets you both out of the house and you get to do something you enjoy. Used to love doing it with my eldest when I had an RS, plus it gives her a break and you get some one on one time.

Have you tryed the RS owners club for insurance?
i'm under no impression its worth anything hence the not wanting to sell it, i cannot think of another car that you could get for 5k that has the same presence, feel and drive of a 300bhp focus RS.
It's about the people who might want to buy the car and what they think.
If you don't need to sell it to buy another car I'd keep it and re use it in the future without spending anything other than maintenance, mot, tax and insurance.
Up to you aint it... it's your car and money.
You might not be able to and that's great for you and it's probably true - but it aint about you is it.

Will keep it just juggling the insurance that's difficult!
Ginge the problem is - you CAN get a good FRS for £6k and a good high mileage one is £5k and there are plenty out there so its a buyers market at those price points - the divs who think a 60k car is worth anything more than £7k TOPS amuse me........... obviously modifications make a difference but the FRS way seems to be to take them all off when you sell the car anyways....
Me.. I got the car (FRS) I wanted for the price I wanted when I wanted it and I am quite happy to use it every day and maintain it perfectly and have no intentions of selling it any time in the next 2 years and will prob just trade it in when I do.
