Default Kit car as a daily

As title really, have always wanted one and at the moment have no need for a large car, have some spare $$ and it's nearly summer.

Looking for something with a budget of between £6-8k and just not sure it'd be something i coudl use for a 50mile total commute daily?

Anyone have a kit car and do this or have had in he past?

Ginetta G26 and plenty of change.

Not the prettiest model, but I think it's cool and different and by far the most practical for daily use that I can think of.

Also 99% of mechanical parts are Ford, so easy to maintain.

I'd imagine any caterham style kit car would be a nightmare as a daily whatever time of year unless you've got another car to fall back on....you have spent a summer in england haven't you
Some of the models have the ragtop roof i guess so might be able to manage but a 50 mile commute would soon get boring in one!!

I'm considering this, to be honest I think with some fibreglass buckets I could drive one everyday. After using a motorbike everyday its seems doable even if it rains

I've been looking at similar cars, its 24 mile each way and have a variety of routes from twisty b roads to A13/M25.

Have another car to fall back on and used to ride a motorbike everyday until I broke my back so looking for a car for a bit of an adrenaline buzz.

haven't got the space for a veg burner and a fun car so thinking of going for it before I dont have the opportunity!

why not a mini with somthing like a c20let or a honda civic engine then you get all the fun but a roof radio heating a more storage space on boot or rear seats and they take up no room in the garage

Because that cuts out all the fun... A mini with a vtec won't handle very well, and will still rust away after a week. A kit car is as close to a bike as you can get. I still have all my bike gear and would use that if I had a 7 type kit car and would happily use it everyday

i thought about this aswell lol, you can buy a 1 peice waterproof wear a lid and as said, get fibreglass/carbon seats make sure there is no interior trim, carpet etc and maybe drill a couple of drain holes in the floorpan.

one thing that you may need to think about is making the guages watertight/protecting the electrics.

unfortunatly i now need to pick the kids up on friday afternoons, so now after a 4 door like a scooby etc lol

id consider this and have it SVA'd if its not road legal

comes with a trailer so could sell that on if not req to recoup some cash.

Only bit I'd be funky about is the A13/M25 bit, couldn't be sat in crawling traffic or in the fukin 50 zone on M25 in a kit car... that's where the bike comparison stops, you can't weave one of these thru traffic!

This is only 1 of the many available routes though.

Need a drive or passenger trip now to see if it's going to be as much fun as I'm thinking!

you need the perfect conditions to enjoy a 7 type kit car, too hot you and the car over heat, too cold and you freeze! they're horrible to drive on even a damp road due to the complete lack of weight over the back end, pulling out of a junction you take you life in your own hands as the bonnet is long so you have to stick your nose out all the time, BEC's are the biggest pain in the arse for driving in traffic due to the clutch bite, everyone thinks you just can't drive!

fantastic fun for blasting around at a weekend or on track, even occassional comuting but everyday...not a chance.
