Default Out of interest the differences with a 90 spec rst??

Can some pictures be posted up of a pre 90 and a 90 spec front bumper? Just want to see the differences out of interest.
I know what the spoiler looks like and the interior, but what else was changed on the cars also?

Column stalks?? Didn't know they varied? Thought the only difference was variable int. wipe... Think the very late ones had the fuel computer, so Ford could get rid of them!?

My old S2 was G plate, had 90 spec interior but early front bumper/spoiler.

Front bumper, modified to allow more air to the radiator to aid cooling. It no longer has a rubber strip below it.
Boot spoiler, curves down at either side
ECU, was changed to the hearts and diamonds type. This can run 10.2 PSI of boost.
Interior, the seats and door cards were given new patterns, called Zolda. It is grey with blue and red flecks.
Roof lining and sun visors are a different colour, as are the speaker panels, kick panels, and rear quarter panels.
Intermittent wiper speed control was added to the right hand dash column controller. Supplementary manual produced by Fords to cover this modification.
Second courtesy light was added in the rear of the car roof lining.
Centre console, a second part was added to extend the length of the console, handbrake handle had a different cover.
Screen wash reservoir wash changed slightly, it now has a thicker neck and incorporates a plastic gauze to stop any debris from entering the screen wash reservoir.
Brake fluid reservoir updated.
Rocker cover changed, holes for the charge carrier bolts moves out a few inches.
Charge carrier, bolt holes to connect to the rocker cover moved over a couple of inches.
Dash clocks, the fuel and temperature gauges are reversed. Fuel on left, water temperature on the right now.
Rear light clusters were changed slightly. The lenses are now darker than the 1986 versions.
Oil dipstick pipe, end is now plastic rather than metal

Thanks for the pics difference is really clear now! That's interesting learning about the other facts especially the boot decals. Did they spot lights get done away with on a 90? Did they do the mods because it was a new decade or just to shift them for the mk5?

Why would they change the width of the boost pipe fixings and the dash board layout? Thank you for the info!!
Were late s2's efi? Also what's the diff between a s1 engine and an s2?

Not sure on the spot lights, I used to service RSTs when they were new, but can't remember if they had 'em or not!

It's a long time ago!

None of the Escorts RSTs were EFI only the Fiesta RST, guess the late Escorts shared the Fiesta base engine, hence rocker covers shared. Pretty sure the late Escort engine had provision for crank sensor so that adds up.

S1 engine had different cylinder head with round exhaust ports and only oil cooled turbo

S2 water cooled turbo and D shape exhaust ports.

Inlet manifolds different.

Great replies gvk!!! Thank you for posting all that. Seems strange they even changed the rocker cover for the fiesta, I know the crossover pipe is longer but the bolt spacing to be changed?? A lot of great info, thank you!

No worries, the memory isn't as good as it was but, I had a couple of RSTs in the 90s, and working in and out of Ford main dealers since 1988 had a bit of experience working on them back in the day!

They all had spotlights, iirc, think 90's look far better without them!? And the later ones also had different seat belt 'catches' presumably where the longer console covered the stalk bits on the 88's....

Yeah looking at the above picture it does look better without them. It's quite funny that the cars bad headlights needed to have spots added so people could actually see to drive at night, fast!
I have wondered about the wheels too, do they have a negative effect on one side as they are not sided as far as I am aware??
