Default Frst ignition

Whats the yellow wire for on the back of the ignition barrel on a fiesta turbo as mine doesn't go to anything but the car still starts as normal, I've had a few problems as in when I turn the key the dash lights (electrics) work when they want to. I've taken the coweling off and the yellow wire must have been touching something because now I've taped it up everything works as it should no probs hence my question it's there for a reason but works all works fine now I've capped it off I'm a little confused.

Thanks in advance

What would happen if the yellow was wrapped around the black wire because that's what looks like someone previous has done but it's came off and started messing with the whole electrics/dash lights and I've now found it. But tape the end (temp fix) and hey presto or am I missing something and the yellow touching the black would blow something I'm useless with wires lol

Thanks ben

From my limited experience with wiring, as above, Yellow tends to be reserved for audio stuff in Fords.

Black tends to be switched lives and brown is used for earth.

As long as bare wires did not touch, you should be ok.

If you do not want to cut the yellow from the barrel, get some shrink wrap and use that to seal the end, then tape it to another wire to stop it moving around.
