Default Legal advice required, poor road surface.

I went to visit my mum on saturday.
After leaving my mums we managed to hit a really large pot hole which is on the road that leads into her flats.
I was traveling at 10-15mph however the impact cracked my windscreen on the passenger side ( screen is only 4 days old ) and has also caused some steering damage,
the car pulls badly to the left and it all feels alittle floaty now.
When I turn the wheel whilst driving the wheels dont seem to turn at the same time as the wheel.
Almost in the same way as a badly worn steering rack would..

The hole isnt marked up at all, there are no signs to suggest it is there.
The speed ramp has got no white markings on it either which makes is hard to see and lastly then adjacent lamp post light doesnt seem to work so it was really dark.

Where do I stand with this and how to I go about getting the council to repair my car?

P.S I know the falts are a shit hole, they are in the process of knocking most of them down

Pics of the hole below and some measurements I made.

38in across
56in long
6in deep in some parts

Write to the council who govern that area, get an estimate on the damage to the vehicle, present the photos, speak to your insurance company and go from there

That big and you failed to see the pothole?

However, as above get quotes and try a claim.
Also keep and eye on the hole and see how long, if at, all they take to fill it in.

Good ammunition for your claim if they don't fill it in as they may already have known about it.
Looks like lots of work going on in the area, maybe it's scheduled for a resuface soon and they are holding off filling it.

Its pitch black round there of a night time, on approach the speed bump hides the hole until your pretty much on top of it.

Pictures of a pothole that size makes me cringe, given how low/hard my car is! I think you'd definitely have a case if you took that to the council, assuming the road is one that they are responsible for maintaining and that it isn't in some way a private access road...

If the flats are all being knocked down then its clear to me why the council would not wish to spend money on the roads in such an area, any redevelopment is likely to remodel the existing roadlayout, that said whilst I understand why they wouldnt *want* to spend money re-surfacing roads that are due to be torn up, they are still responsible for keeping them in passable condition for the average road user!

The hump looks pretty obscured by the speed hump to be fair. Get a claim rolling with the council and see what comes back. They will wriggle and no doubt claim that it was fine when the road was last inspected. Argue that it's filled with half bricks etc which are not used in carriageway construction so clearly the hole has been there some time. Make sure the road has been adopted by your local authority as if it hasn't you will need to persue the developer of the land

You will have to fight hard to get the repair sorted.
