after fitting -31, and having little joy setting up boost via bleed valve i refitted amal, using diagram of cossie page as i wanted to be sure it went on right. i noticed a nylon insert, is this a ''jet''. anyway car hit 15psi and in 1/2/3rd was quite awesome, and my dodgy recaro slid back 6 inches!! anyway, rather than push my luck i thought better of it til its set up. booked an hour at a local dyno operators (i live near brigg) and was told the car sound fantastic, hold boost ect but was lean up top. will need more dyno time to make safe alternatively a chip from bayjoo. that was his suggestion. for a guy who's been around some nice motors ie racing tr4/6's the sight/sound of my turboed bonus seemed to please him. no problem with the proprieter. admitedlly they dont seen mfi much these days but one thing niggles me. in certain areas, i seemed to know more about rst on mfi!! for example, the 2 employees were poking around at plugs ect and one asked, whats the green plug? i said its a knock sensor to which he replied it cant be, its in the wrong place AND the car is too old
his mate bluntly said dont talk wet, its gonna pick up knock were it is or words of that effect. anyway, ill be clear i want the propieters watching over in future, is tis acceptable? i can tell he knows old fords just by talking to him.

well tbh karlos, thats how ive always thought fuelling is setup, via metering head. ecu is purely to remove boost limit. they also said the backfire was prob boost cut, at 15psi!! this was prior to the run on the rollers but it turned out to be lean. hence the backfire. the owner seemed to know a bit and suggested a chip AND fuelling setup, not using a chip to magiclly get the fuelling to suit whatever boost is run although i can se how its interpreted. its only one of the employees that made me have initial doubts. no real benefit in a chip if it can hit 15psi then? do boost gauges lie to THAT extent?? i could do with visiting one of the ford specialists really, someone who deals with m.f.i regular

Boost cut on a stock ECU is about 10psi so unless your gauge is really out it sounds like it could already be chipped mate, whip it out and have a look (silver ECU not the black one), take the back off, remove the metal plate covering the biggest chip in inside and stick a pic up on here.
You would be better going to someone who really knows RST's in and out, bit risky if he gets it wrong.

ill have a look and get a pic up mate. ill get an rst master to have a look next time, dont want anyway meltdowns!! prior to the actuator been replaced with a -31 it was at a lopwly 6psi on the gauge. i think it must be chipped, ill look anyway and hopefully we can see who by.

it is chipped mate. not sure by who though. all i know is it goes way beyond the boost cut, cutoff. ive since had the fuelling setup and have 12psi and 15psi on demand (crude toggle switch/amal valve affair!!). im going to get a bayjoo chip in the future though. been getting a missfire occasionally albeit a loud as fuck one so reckon either the plugs need replacing/gapping or the dizzy is tired. only does it when under load ie low engine speed/high gear (4th) and letting it pull through to the effective powerband. goes pop just prior to the start of the usable power, then all is well. timing/fuelling is spot on.

it was vesseys nick. it appears my gauge is out and my ecu isnt chipped. sometimes it allows higher boost, depending on how the power is applied. tbh, im pleased with the setup done by dennis. the car feels transformed when running less boost. a bayjoo chip is on the cards and another setup. apparently vessey did rst's on a regular basis but hardly see's them now. still, while there things went well and he hasnt forgotten how things work with mfi.
