ARGH! This is doing my head in - Fuel Gauges AGAIN!!!
I can't find a decent looking after market fuel gauge for the car that will work using the original sender. Yeah there are a few on the market but none that really make me want to buy them. They either don't match anywhere near to my other gauges or just look total shit.
I would ideally like something that looks exactly like a Mike R ACT gauge so it can go next to my ACT gauge with my other Defi on top. See below...
If not, I will have to loose the ACT gauge all together, and then possible not have a fuel gauge, but don't really fancy that.
Anybody have any decent suggestions please?

Not sure whether Mike can come to the rescue here.
I'm interested in this too..............
Problem is, I know he'll say we both should have saved our money (as we discussed at Bedford) and bought the proper 8000 series Stack as that has a fuel gauge in it, but it's too late for that.
If you see anything Tone, let me know...........

I will do Rich.
Problem is, it would be a HUGE waste of money buying the 8000 series Stack, as it will only do what my Defi's do anyway (plus fuel level), and I am not that keen on the looks of it to be honest either.
Stack don't do a stand alone fuel level
I will PM/ Email you some links of ones I have found, but they are mostly Autometer gauges.

One idea was to convert it into a round gauge and have that somewhere near the gearstick, but it has that big multiplug on the back so would need rewiring and alot of messing about.

I haven't got a coin tray... NEEEEXT! LOL
Aother idea was to use the fuel computer, which doesn't do anything now as the fuel gauge, as it shows fuel remaining, but only when it calculates it with the speed and fuel used. All 3 sensors have to work for it to read properly. Could an electronics wizard turn that into a fuel level gauge.... somehow???
What do race cars use?

Tone,
Race cars will use a separate gauge, but it never matters that much as it isn't what it looks like that's important.
Mike - can you not get something made up via Ben to display as the ACT gauge does? If you know the quantity of the tank, and the voltage values of the sender, I'm sure Ben must be able to do something that would work......

Just a suggestion. Not ideal I realise

The Stack does volts, and the SPA was around Ł200, Ł200 for a sodding fuel level gauge

I know... I paid over 200 squid for one and can't get it calibrated properly as they sent boost gauge instructions!
The Volts also Read 1.5 LOWER than the Stack

Have you seen the fuel level guage in the new fiesta's??
Its a very small (about 10mm wide x 25mm high) Digital guage.
It is incorporated into the speedo but i'm sure you can butcher it to remove just the fuel guage.
Being Ford it might even recognise you sender as well.
Matt.

Well I'm sure it can be done.
The sender unit gives out a varied voltage between two preset values to indicate the level, via the crude old float system. The volume of the tank is fixed, so there must be a way of transmitting this to a gauge. It's well past my level of knowledge though.......
On my race tank, I have a separate VDO sender unit in the top, and so I would need some kind of fuel level gauge, unless I could calibrate mine into the dash......
Short answer Tony............. Yes

I also get a different reading on my Stack than I do from my Omex, same with the Defi water, I think it must vary from where the Stack picks the voltage from I guess???
Matt - That's a pretty good idea, I haven't seen them, but I bet that little bit in the clock is a fortune from Ford...

Tony, anyone with a basic knowledge of electronics / programming microchips could make you one to look exactly the same as the ACT guage. It is just a case of knowing what voltage in from the fuel tank sender = how much fuel.
E.g. When the tank is full, the wire from the sender to the fuel guage will read 6v and when empty it will read 0v or something similar. Then someone can program the chip to take this voltage input and convert it to a useable output from a display driver chip.
Should only cost a couple of quid in parts from Maplins.

Phil - Yeah, I like your style, but in order for it to work on the mass market (read as: Me and Richard lol) it would need to be user programmable somehow.

It would be simple to do something like the other display TT
Would just need a PIC chip programming up, and a small circuit board connected to a display.
