Anyone in the car auction game?

Further to my thread a few days ago about looking at a new car the wife and I have found a Saab estate which we are very keen on. The guy we are buying from though is adamant that he has very little movement on his advertised price.
I have done a google search on the car's registration which has revealed an auction related website with the car's details suggesting it was sold at auction at the beginning of this month - but I cannot access the webpage properly because of a Google API key issue.
Does anyone know any other websites which details cars which have been sold at auction in the previous month or so? I would REALLY love to know what he dealer paid for this car at auction to see how much bargaining leverage I have against what he is claiming.
If anyone is directly involved in auctions the car reg is LM57 YLP and it is a Saab 93 1.9 TiD Vector Estate being sold by a used car dealer in Sheffield.
Also is there anywhere I can find out online what bhp model this is? Googling Saab 93's seems to reveal they had 120bhp and 150bhp engines in the turbo diesel variety.

As said above, best bet is bid your best price, if it aint having it, it aint having it and thats it. Remember a dealer has to cover the cost of running his business, along with warranty on the car, plus additional costs like time going and buying, transporting then doing little bits that needed doing, alloy refurbs, valet, paint touch up, tyres, then time advertising it and time spent with punters.

I buy and sell used cars for a living and afaik the sale prices at auctions are not published anywhere, and rightly so! 99% of buyers at auction are traders, if people knew the original purchase price I,d take that as a bit of a kick in the nuts!, factor in buyers premiums, any repairs, an MOT, valeting, a percentage for advertising & pitch costs, then any warranty given, margins aren't as great as they look, my advice is bid him as low as you dare!!

I'm not begrudging anyone trying to make an honest living - I understand how my original post may have come across. I have the same problem in that I'm trying to get as much car as I possibly can for my money, the same as the dealer is trying to get as much money for the car - so any chance I can get the upper hand in a business deal I'm prepared to investigate, hence me asking the question.
Rossco - where'd you find it was a 120bhp model out of interest?

Your going to struggle to get the upper hand over a trader. Just go in with an offer as low as you dare with the cash there and then. He may take a quick hassle free sale.
On the other hand it can't be priced that badly to start with otherwise you wouldn't be interested surely?
Just make an offer, whats the worst that can happen?

IIRC (when the newer MK5 CDTi Ashtrays came out) I read that there isnt a great deal of mechanical difference between the 120/150 models and they map to similar levels. So I'd not be arsed which I got, since whatever I'd get would defo see a remap.
Look at what other dealers are selling your car for, take c1500 off that price and you'll be in the right ballpark IMO.. but remember your trader might have had to put £1000 into tidying the car up before it was ready for sale, which might well be why he's so adamant on price he wants.
Cheers,
Grant

Usually about £1000-1500 mark up on cars but as grant said a big chunk of that's taken up in getting the vehicle 100% so I'd say there's probably a £200 window to play with as he'll want at least £3-500 in his bin for the sale.
Perhaps get him to tax it and fill the tank up,that way it's a tax deductible expense to the company and isn't REALLY costing them anything as they then pay less income tax on the deal.

When I traded my Audi in, the garage said they looked to make a grand per car they sell, he told me he would advertise mine at £9k and offered £7500 for it, knowing it needed the alloys refurbishing mot was due in Feb and a service was due.
He stuck that up at £8995 and it sold pretty much straight away, factor in the bits he needed to have done - wheels, service, mot, valet and anything he knocked off and it would have been about right for the grand profit.

when I was at the BCA auctions at brighouse in early december I didn't see one person all day go to the rostrum to pay the 500 or 5% deposit that mean't every buyer was a trader! (or had an account with them)
With regards to the OP If your trying to get as much for your money why not try the auctions yourself I've bought a few cars from them and never had a problem

I would have thought you should be able to pick up a Saab for a bargain price at the moment. With the company recently going in to administration i bet there are a lot of people that will be wanting to pass them on before they experience warranty and servicing problems.
