LOL at this thread!!

v-tecs are pants...don't make great power in comparison to their rivals...and then burn so much oil, they didnt meet euro emissions rules!

tbh all that jap wank is over-rated too! like the over-rated and over priced shite...that is the AE86 Corolla! like what the fuck is the fascination in a 25yr old bundle of shite with a shite engine going "bap bap bap bap bap" (and in circles too) The honda civics are the fucking same....only with a slightly we bit more power, and a few decades too late!!

i hate the veedub crap, but a golf/corrado vr6 made all the right noises (and a superb sound at that), but at least they had a good bit of poke for what they where back in the day, and they do make great engines currently!! but wtf are honda playing at

Are you about to start quoting turbo cars as rivals?

If so congrats on missing the point

The thing is when the CTR was released, 2 years later? ford brought the focus RS out which was only 212bhp, i remember been in one when i first saw a CTR really go ( rickylee will confirm ) and the CTR destroyed it in a line

So how people can think that the power wasn't there vs its rivals is beyond me, fair enough 10 years down the line there abit down on power.

I read parts of the thread and i agree with what casper had said initially!

I couldnt give a fuck what engineering went into the v-tec engine. Deal is, the next CTR is going the turbo route. Enough said!

Alot of new age motors are turbo'd. Bmw are using turbos on some of there petroleum. Doesn't mean the n/a 6 cylinders were no good does it? So I disagree with your enough said comment.

No one on this thread is saying that vtec is better than a turbo, or even comparable to a turbo in terms of performance potential, its obvious that if you force air into an engine it will go better.
So you are arguing against no one with that, cause everyone already knows it.

LOL at you. Don't judge cars that you've seen on YouTube, and have never actually been in any of said cars. Japanese manufacturers were always ahead of their rivals in the late 80's/90's, hence a lot of Jap engines being some of the most tuneable ever made. You're blinkered by the Blue oval, I bet you think your ZVH would dick on a CTR

agreed, and the japanese were the reason the british bike and car industry got killed off, simply because they were far superior

Well infact 2 friends if mine have AE86s...1 is a 4age the other is an sr20det. The sr20 one is cool tbh, but the other one is a load of wank. I have driven 3 ITRs (dc2s) and 2 CTRs (ep3s) and they genuinely didnt impress me!! At the end of the day honda are ditching their own system and going down an obvious route as they cant comply with emmisions rules and be up with the rest!!

And yes i driven my friends 1.8zvh frst a few years back and it dicked over an ep3 and an fn2 ctr, as well as a megane 225 and a leon cupra!!

So what you lot are saying is, that im a retard because i have driven a few v-tec powered car's and my personal opinion is that they are slow and a load of shite??

What has a 130hp non vtec 4age got to do with this thread ?

I have a friend that runs one in a rwd starlet that came 2nd in the redline thrash a year or so ago, strangely beating a lot of turbo machinery except his bosses 700hp celica.

Back onto hondas I've not owned one but have driven the early integra type r a few times and it was very impressive, I wouldn't call them slow at all.

AE86 corollas are one of the coollest cars ever.

Do you say that to mk1/mk2 escort owners (or even rs turbo, or cosworth owners) ?

They are all reasnobaly expensive (not overpriced) and have engines that arent that powerful and economical (i assume thats what you meant by shite)

The fascination with them is that they look cool, they delivery a driving experience you just dont get anymore, and give you a nostalgic feeling when you drive them.

as for you comparing a vtec engine to a 25+ year old engine well people have swaped there pintos and X flows for a v tec engine........

You had to swap engines in both of your cars. Yet I dare say you still have less reliability/power and economy than the original engine that came in the Civic's of the same age.

Just out of interest my dads got an accord 2.3 type v. Is this an 8 valve vtec? What sort of power does this engine make. Love driving it. The engine feels unbreakable.

One of my best friends did a 13.9@101mph 1/4 mile in his DC2 ITR, on Crail's shitey surface too... and all it had was a de-cat, full Spoon exhaust system, Mugen airbox and Spoon ECU. What a piece of shite.

depends on year model etc, whether its vtec at all, i know honda did non vtec 2.3's, but i thing the best performing was the H23a, was about 200bhp, they also did a f23 engine variation related to the f20 but think that was somewhere around the 150bhp area

both are 16v engines, although, there are some vtec engines like the 1.5 vtec-e (d15 iirc)motor that will run 8v till a certain RPM then switch to 16v mode, but thats an economy focused vtec, not for maximising performance

Some of them figures quoted by chip are amazing once a VTEC is turbocharged compared to say the YB .Learnt a fair bit on this thread thanks to Chip .I am suprised how often it seems its compared in N/A form to other vehicles that have forced induction . Loving the Diesel YB comment it made me rethink in terms of revability these VTECS have . Good thread .

RickyLee is the VTEC expoert on here, most of what I know is secondhand info from him TBH!

I even had to ask him what the 3 different cam profiles were all about when I was looking up cams, I thought VTEC only had 2 till he educated me

didnt kill off the bike industry as such, they just had to adapt or die off, which is the way it should be, build a better product and you wont die off (still amazed Harley is still going, but then again they have the "patriot" factor going for them, ie: a blinkered yank that will only buy american made even if it is the worst made product in its industry), most 70's and 80's jap bikes were pretty wank in the corners, so the likes of harris and spondon came along and re-framed those great engines into the great frames they deserved....well till the rest of japs started copying the fireblade recipe book that is.

and didnt triumph post record sales this quarter?
