Yes everything more or less bolts up if you have all the bits. Get as late an engine set up as possible as they had more power towards the end....

Acceleration isn't astounding but up hills and on the motorway they are pretty good.

Never bought one to be honest mate but the actual engine is basically the same (block, head, crank, pistons, rods).

If you can find one you only need all the bolt on bits like manifolds etc. You will need a sump (not the easiest job but do able if you have the right tool as the rear 2 bolts are a cunt to get at).

This company actually converts the 2.5 DI Transit to turbo if it's of any interest...I am assuming the conversion can then be optimised a little bit more than what they quote

I once drove a TD Transit which had developed a faault on the EPIC engine management system and they had removed it and just fitted a normal mechanical pump and turned the fueling up to suit. It went pretty good.

There is a company called Dronsfield Mercedes in Oldham (don't have the number to hand). They are a large independant garage who deal in Merc parts mainly but also scrap a lot of other vehicles including Transits. They may have some TD bits in stock or possibly know of some...

fookin transhits, the old type were/are really shite , even worse with any weight in one , the best thing you can do m8 is rip the oil burner out and fit a V8, loadsa grunt , dont have to rev it past 4k , and then convert it to gas , over 20mpg then - i see approx 20mpg fully loaded ( 3tonne van) with another 2.3 tonne on the back ( car and trailer ) pulls like a good un !!

oh and mine an LDV !! considerably cheaper than a transhit !!

The LDV is cheaper for a reason Mark!

They drive like a sack of spuds and built like a card board box! Ohhh, nice fibreglass dash board!

I have to admit that Transit's are a bit lacking in power, but go for fooking ever. I have "tuned" mine and it's a lot better. However it smokes a little and fuel ecconomy has suffered slightly. It's always loaded as well.

DazC,

yes its a stigma from transit drivers case LDV used to be really shit - even id admit that , and ( i know its hard to believe but) even slower than transits

but when the convoy came out using the good bits from the transits ( well nearly all) like the rear axle and gear box ( shame they used the engine ) the reliabilty became very good - mines now done 120k on same axle and box ,

Ohhh, nice fibreglass dash board!
yes its fibreglass , and a whole load better than the old styleeee , but do you really buy a van to look at the dash all day ??

the thing that was always better about the LDV was the load space , the transit developed a fookin stupid slant in at the top of the van what was all that about ? so the load tapered at the roof , and no theyve gone back to the conventional van box shape like everyone else

and the transits have always bene shit on fuel

Yes the LDV is a lot better but they still use the shit door catches, handles, wiring is pants they still rot, etc etc....better switches and clocks though. From my point of view, they are not hard wearing enough for the usual type of van driver. If it was mine or your van then fair enough, it will have a chance of lasting but as a fleet van, they have always been a bit of a long running joke around our place alongside Fiat Ducatos and their French equivalents. Our LDV is a hideous sack of shit...

They fair shift now they have the new Transit engine in them.

I cannot believe they STILL use that shat steering box through the chassis though!

i agree about the steering box, gotta be my only bone of contention with he van tbh , and as for the rot , only seams to be the outer bodies that go this is my second LDV, i had a 400 before this and the chassis was fookin mint but the outer body was fooked

this one is ok tho , good chassis and good body

even still i wouldnt say that there is any comparison to any french vehicle what so ever , they should not be allowed into this country without 100% tax on them if the car was Ł8000 in france it should be Ł16000 if you want to bring one into this country - fookin crocks

Agreed!! The French and Italians should be banned. That also means the Poxhall Movano as well then..

I personnally wouldn't ever think about buying an LDV after using a Transit for quarter of a million miles with nothing but servicing and a starter motor, set of rear springs and injectors. It may be slow but it doesn't stop moving...

All down to my own experiences between different vans to be honest and I have had some bad ones with LDVs.

I also don't really like Sprinters/LTs as they drive odd and feel like they are going to fall over. Plus the doors sound like they are about to drop off if you dare to slam them too hard.

FWD vans are discounted completely...vans should not be FWD unless they are Escort size.

I am due a new van and it is going to be a new RWD Transit. I do also have a few reserves about these too but the choice was down to these or the Sprinter and I will put the Sprinter on it's side without a doubt!

Sorry, it's also had front wheel bearings, couple of clutches and exhausts and a heater resistor.

Yep, that's a rebadged Renault Master. Like to dump their oil every so often. You only have to look at the old Renault Master to know Renault know fook all about vans...
