when we got the wifes ST it had been 'tidied' up a bit at the garage for the sale. one of these fantastic improvements were to quickly spray the alloys at the areas where they had been curbed and scraped. now,they really arent too badly curbed but because of the aerosol spray on bits of them they look really shitty and dont shine up well at these areas. i was gonna get them rufurbished but tbh i dont think theyd be too bad looking if i could get the aerosol off them,any how she'll likey ding them again anyway!! so, whats the best way of removing the spray off them so theyre back to the original finish?? if i can get them cleaned up i might not need to get them fully refurbed,just a tidy up that i can do myself.

i would use a bit of paint thinners on a rag

whats under that paint though mate? must have been sprayed for a reason?

If you are handy with a rattle can, maybe give them a quick sand down and a couple of coats of silver and lacqure so they are even in colour.

Done a couple of sets myself, tis a bit of a ball ache though.

Neat petrol on a rag mate.

Best way to remove kerb marks from just around the rims edge is not to fill them completely, get an orbital sander wit a 80 - 120 grit disc on and just let it run itself round the edge of the rim a few times, takes 80% of the kerbing out, then you just need a light skim of filler and spray, ive done many a set.

thanks gents,i'll give it a bash myself i think. if it goes horribly wrong with the first couple i'll get the pro's to do it! i think theyve just been fannied up as the car was originally on a personal lease and the lease companies can be quite fussy about the condition theyre handed back so its been to hide some marks. i'll let you know how i get on lol

Depends how badly kerbed they are, remove the aerosol overspray with neat petrol or paint thinners, white spirit on a rag and see what your left with, maybe put a pic up? I used some simoniz alloy wheel silver paint on an alloy on my old ST before i sold it but did a proper job of flatting it back with 1200 wet and dry first and i was suprised how well it matched up to the other 3 !

its easy enough to refurb your own wheels, i did my black multi spokes on my bmw. its time consuming with each wheel taking me 2 days, but they are fiddly wheels with 19 spokes. the quality of the finish was as good as professional and they lasted well despite using spray paints.
much better than an ace performance refurb anyway

got the front 2 off and in the garage just now,cleaned them up front and rear,will get the petrol and thinners on them tomorrow nite after work and post some pics,see what u all think

If they are pretty bad get them shot-blasted somewhere, fill any damage with top stop filler, sand it down with 320 then go over the whole wheel with 500, then just prime, sand down with 500, paint and lacquer them. Steer away from Metallics if possible though, especially if using rattle cans. See if she would prefer a straight colour like black/white. It means you won't have to lacquer them and they can be easily sorted if needs be.
