Default Your First Modified Car Crimes?

The young ladd with the mk2 Escort thread in the resto section got me thinking

the 30 something yearold's folk will probably appreciate this more but what were your worst mods that make you cringe now?

I remember my first car at 17 a Vw Polo, I bought rally style headlamps and had no idea how to wire them up to just I just bolted them to the bottom valance and kept the white plastic covers on. i thought they looked the nuts, i did the k&n sticker's all over it ect urrrghhhh

Next was a Vw Golf that got gold stripes and gold vw badges DTM style exhaust Venoms and I even painted the wrinting on the tyres gold :-( :-( I remember the sun strip was huge and it had the ride height of a 4x4

Then a Nova that wasn't actually too bad Comp Mo's ect Id finally seen the light so got into the fords and I was sorted

Anyone got any horror stories? pictures would be interesting! i'll try and dig a few out of mine......

My first car at 18 was a mint XR2i I bought off an old lass (was in amazing condition H29LEL. A friend fucked off with it with out paying me when I went to Iraq) Only real crime was a failed attempt at de badging the front bonnet and had a neon tube behind the grill! Also had a Big Bore Exhaust that sounded ace!

Second time was a Citrine Mondeo with the RS kit, went to a Max Power Live show at the NEC and bought 2 Rage 5" back boxes (the Mondy had twins already) so I had Nove Sport in Aldershot to make the Rage boxes come out the back at a 45 degree angle, ended up looking alright (ish) and was loud as fuck.

LOL at this thread, ps where is the link to the mk2??

my first car:
Mk4 escort 1.3l i bought off my mum lol, it was also a 5 door...

fitted 15" tsw hockenheims, spax psx lowering kit (shock and springs), rs turbo front bumper witht he RS extension, rs turbo rear bumper, a pug 106 dtm spoiler nailed on the top of the boot lid and binned the 1.3 motor for a 1.6 ghia. oh peco BB4 of course!

the day i got it back from having the engine fitted and setup, well within 1 mile of picking it up i got done for speeding at 88mph down the bath easton bypass, the gatso had been live for bout 3 days

while serving the 21 day ban i took all the windows out and tinted them and used black fablon between the windows on the door bits to try and make it look less 5 door lol

home made single wiper conversion and massive sun strip finished it off.

well, writing it off finished it off i suppose

it looked ok tbh

then got a 205 gti and done subtle mods, didnt have it long before i got a mk5 escort cabriolet, modded an evo spoiler to fit, gti skirts and spats, lowered on kyb shocks and springs, 130bhp conversion, cossie front bumper

sold that for a mk6 escort with 2.0l zetec, made some bike throttle bodies fit and it had cobra daytona seats, leather rears, lowered on kybs again, masitaly vt5, gti kit

its the only one i have pics of before i got the 3dr.

done the job lol

I remember doing some work for a firm who made all the tat even halfords wouldnt touch, neon washer jets, crome wiper covers and tones of annodised effect blue and pinky red plastic stick on shit.

I had a huge box of the tat and a mate asked if he could have it, I said yes and he put everything on his rover 620i, it looked like a clown car.

mk3 fiesta 1.1 3 door

Fiesta Recaros
Glued on with no cut out FRST vents
Home resprayed xr2i rear bumper
15" focus alloy wheels
Replaced carpet with some thick luxury blue rug!
Mounted speakers on the floor of each footwell
DVD screen up front, sub etc in back (actually sounded amazing watching films)
drilled airbox
Removed rear wiper and put a blanking patch on it
will try find some photos....

Name: speaker.jpg
Views: 174
Size: 75.9 KB

p.s also remember one day trying to drill a hole in the back box to make it louder!

Car was shit but have fond memorys! we used to go "pitching" a thing where we just went off down farm tracks or in the woods rallying, learnt all the handbrake turns and that jazz, jumping in through the window instead of opening the door etc! good times!

I actually like that ax!!!

I'll try my hardest to dig out some photos of my old escort cabriolet, porsche riviera blue, illusion front bumper, twin headlights,on a q plate,mk3 but sort of a mk4 conversion,15" stealths.

Shit, not done by me but car was tbh 100% reliable.

My first crime was my 5dr UNO,only 2 alloys on the back(couldn't afford/source/be arsed to get 2 more),various stickers,k&n off some carb car badly botched on,cherry bomb back box directly welded to the floor, front spots wired in direct from the battery,no relay, just a toggle switch.
Did have UNO turbo clocks that worked perfectly though(my one proud mod!!!).

I think heinous crimes wise that was about it,but I'm sure if I dig out my old photos there'll be worse to come!!!

had a standard 1.6 3 door sierra and wanted different headlights in it, so bolted on the twin units as seen on the cossies, put a cossie grille on it...........

it looked the nuts, .....UNTIL, i decided to put 2 round pieces of card over the lights and then spray the lights black. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i removed the card "templates" i had "twin headlights"!!! haha. looked shite then, and even worse when the lights were on at night.

AFPMSL@speakers at rear headrests!!

I always cringe thinking of my 2nd car which was my 2nd AxGt because I tinted the rear lights with a spray can. Wow I was cool

I found the pics recently and really need to get them scanned

I've not really done many pikey mods on any of my cars... closest would be this:

Name: DSC01660.jpg
Views: 207
Size: 63.4 KB

Rover 216GTi Twin Cam

- Took bottom of airbox off, stanley knifed an Impreza Turbo panel filter to fit the top of the box and then tied it on with shoe laces.
- Fitted a backbox that I took off a Civic VTi which I was breaking, fitted it with bungee cords and it melted a hole half way up the bumper.
- Removed an air vent in the dashboard and fitted an A/F ratio gauge, mounted in a chopped up sponge.

Fucking loved that car.
