Default MKII Escort

Hey all, new here, I'm 19 and I have a 1.3l 1976 MKII Escort L. I got it off my dad who garaged it in favour of an XR3i. It was fitted with a blueseal engine, new brakes, new clutch, new exhaust etc before it was garaged.

It starts every time and all the pieces are there, I just need a little work to get it MOT worthy, such as the A-pillar and boot floor need welding up, it has been garaged for about 9 years so I am going to swap all the fluids, pipes and hoses, I will also check the brakes for rust. I just need a little help sourcing fiberglass body panels. I want to fit a boot spoiler and a front spoiler, however the most important thing so far is fiberglass doors, as these one have pretty much dropped off the hinges and rusted through . I could also do with pointing in the right direction for braided brake hoses and where to get all the rubber seals.

Then all that's left is attacking the surface rust and possibly swapping the front McPherson struts as they are red rusty, but not sure if it's just surface rust.

And to prove I'm not a troll, here are some pics of it.

And for the lols, heres a pic of me!

Vey nice!! What are the plans (other than get rid of the rust)? And why is the back end in the air? Bring it down a tad and get rid of that thing on the rear window. (although, saying that, its your car and feel free to ignore me)

Is that an old or recent pic?! You look a bit on the young side

If so, you're a lucky bugger to have a 2dr MK2! Out of reach of many these days! I do agree with the above though, bring the back end back down and you'd be on the way. Some lovely MK2s on here, so take a peak through some pictures, especially the recent ones from Ford Fair and you should find plenty of inspiration

Thanks guys, the rear is coming down, the rear window Louvre is staying though, and so is the bonnet scoop, although I do plan on swapping it to a "Subaru" Style one. That pic is recent I'm 19 but I look about 16 haha I get ID'd everywhere.

I'm not after a "nice" car, I want something that's different, hence the rear window louvre, and the chrome trim.

each to their own I prefer original mk2 escorts, love thum. Everyone dont have same taste though all unique in their ways. Must say jealous as fook wish my dad would leave me a mk2 escort although he in process of getting one. Keep us up to date with your progress and welcome to the site

Im going to go against the grain!

You do the vent fella, it's only a bonnet and can be changed at a later date, you've got your own style going on so you style the car as you please your only young once......

I'll guarantee the old chaps (like me) advising against it have committed similar modyfiying crimes, if we put up pictures of our first modified cars at 19 we'd all sit and cringe i know I do!

BUT I wouldn't make major changes to the rest of the bodywork other than getting it mint, that shell if solid will be worth a tidy little sum and these cars are rare so plan your mods carefully mate.

Good luck and keep us informed with plenty of photo updates

If I was you id even go as far as to getting it vinyl wrapped with some mad goth/emo whatever the style is called styling! that would really upset the purist's!

Don't worry, I'm not planning on anything radical. All I'm doing is the bonnet scoop, front and rear spoiler and a couple of stickers, then I'll have some custom painted RSfours Might paint the leafs, brakes and prop fluo green too.

1980 I'm pretty sure was when last RWD Escys were made.

It's really nice for you to have one. Tho I'm sorry to say but those "tuning" ideas sound exactly like the stuff you think now is cool but when youre few years older you'll regret them. I'm only 22 but this thing almost happened to me too, tho in a much worse scale because I was only 15 when I got my first car (the current daily drive) and my taste was REALLY childlish back then.

Also my cousin totally raped a one mk2 Escort once he was young too. Tho it has been few years already and mk2's were much cheaper back then.

But anyhow what you decide it's your decision and I hope you'll be happy with the end results.

The thing is guys, the bonnet already has holes for a bonnet scoop, and I don't plan on getting a new bonnet anytime soon, so while it has holes in it, I'm gonna fit a scoop that I like, then if I decide I don't like it anymore later on, I'll just get a new fiberglass bonnet ^_^

As of now though my main focus is getting it ready for the MOT which is stuff like the badly rusted doors, the A-pillar, the boot floor, the rubber hoses and seals and a full fluid flush out and change.

You need alot more than that matey

Although its a great present, i carnt see a solid 2 door mk2 escort as a daily driver.

This is not the sort of car you can leave outside pub, cinema, mates, shops etc

You're going to ruin it. It's going to look stupid. Yes people have done stupid mods in the past, but very rarely to something like this.

Haha, it's my car, I'll do what I want to it... Everyone with a MKII has a flat bonnet and a rear window you can see out of and I want to have something different! I can't stand following the crowd.

Actually thinking about it, whats the difference between pretty much every MKII out there... Colour, wheel arches and wheel choice... too similar if you ask me.

If you don't like it then tough, in fact those that are saying I'll "ruin" it are encouraging me to do even "worse" stuff just to annoy you even more As for those that aren't, thanks for the support!

people on here are trying to give you advice personally i would laugh at it with a scooby vent in it, not the same era as the car your choice at the end of the day and saying that you would do even worse stuff to it just to annoy people on here then i think you should not be on this site as all the people on here are enfusiasts of fords and especially a old mk 2 getting that treatment will roll a few peoples eyes on here. people like to see these cars with respect not just put a load of crap on them as there aint many left now.

gota say well said and most people on this forum love fords and enjoy looking at them and have a passion for them hence the passionford
but each to there own imo this car will look fantastic with only small amouts of money put on it but with the mods he says will be far more plus wont get as many looks well i say that but they will look and say core look at that mess sorry i know its your car but you come to the wrong site for them mods what he needs to do is go to some shows and buy some old school dvds of rallying from that era then he will change his mind imo ford love dont come over night in some people but some people it comes in a matter of minutes everyones different
