I remember having a mk3 Escort 1.6 Ghia on an X plate as my first car.

Did the usual...RS Turbo wheels, Peco BB4 back box.

Best bits were the 100bhp SPLITFIRES!!!!!!!!......
And i wired up the amp from the power to the rear lights, so i had to always have the lights on for the amp to work....but when it did the rear lights would dim as the bass kicked in.......

I THINK i also had the sticker..."I get goosebumps when the bass thumps"

lol at some of these! the gauge in the sponge was genius!

can honestly say iv never fitted kits, neons, stickers, dodgy car mats or air fresheners or big exhaust to underpowered cars.

while all my mates where into that iv always been into the subtle oem+ look!

My first car was an Orion 1.6i 13 yrs ago.Had some 5 spoke 14's on it with massive arch gap.Twin DTM backbox wich looked massive but sounded ok.I bought some of those foam seatbelt pad things too..Made my own parcel shelf from MDF which was a really nice bit of workmanship by myself, trimmed and all. That was until moisture from the window caused it to swell, resulting in the window bursting out.Feckin exploded.

seeing that pic of the 309 above reminded me that i had a goldy/brown 309 sri in between owning the mk4 escort and the 205 lol.
that just had a K&N and a DTM backbox i made fit

only had it 2 months tho before a lad from schools mum failed to give way to the right at a roundabout and wrote it off, also in corsham lol

i also had a nissan 200sx at some point too lol

- Fitted a backbox that I took off a Civic VTi which I was breaking, fitted it with bungee cords and it melted a hole half way up the bumper.
- Removed an air vent in the dashboard and fitted an A/F ratio gauge, mounted in a chopped up sponge.

Fucking loved that car.

Yes, no pics of it though I'm afraid, can't find them anywhere! It was a proper weapon, spray tinted headlamps, the dymags off the rover, home made smoothed tail gate (which did actually turn out alright to be fair), twin dtm upsweep exhausts, top and bottom fablon sunstrips so there was about 18" of windscreen to see out of, single wiper conversion and the cherry on the cake was raiding vauxhalls in the scrappys to get chrome letters to spell out la vista, so the badge said astra la vista

I then bought a twin 5" rage backbox for it, but the engine popped its cloggs before I ever fitted it. In fact this reminds me, my mate still owes me Ł20 from when I sold him the exhaust

I remember saving up for the rattlesnake bodykit for my old escort fortunetly it got wrote off before this crime could be commited. I had a mark 1 fiesta with an x pack kit on it though and the peco big bore 4 lol i thought it was ace and made a chunk of cash on that car. After that i just went for big wheels and low cars no added on kits etc

I think most of us did the seatbelt harness pads and sunstrip thing.

Things people cringe about now though were just fashionable at the time. Also lets remember that tuning has come a long way bitd the only real places that we got bits from were the original ripspeed and demon tweeks and lets face it there wasn't a lot of choice. An example for exhausts mainly magnex, janspeed,or if you couldn't afford them Peco or god forbid a cherry bomb. Suspension was only really Koni, eibach or Spax or PI springs. Tuning was yet to really become mainstream - Max Power hadn't taken off! Ok so it lost its way and has a lot to answer for but look at where tuning is now.

The kids today are going to look back at shit like sticker bombing, forced rat look and stupidly low stance in the same way we are about rattlesnake kits and peco big bores!
The Mk2 esc in the resto room is a prime example, i remember the early 80's when every old boy round here had a capri, mk2 or chevette with jacked up leaves, dymags, rear window louvres, spot lights, tiger print fur seat covers and usually accompanied by a cb and dixie horns(still rife in the 4x4 world unfortunately )

Shit the bed, that must of went like a rocket!

I was never into the big body kits and 24inch chrome wheels etc, my first car was a 1.25 mk4 fiesta, just bought some 60mm springs and dropped it on some Capri Lasers in white

You guys are all amateurs!!!!

This was my first car. A Mighty Skoda Estelle 120LSE.

Among the many shocking mods were the RS Turbo bonnet vents (yes, the engine is in the back) spotlights that I never managed to wire up, hand painted flames, Mk2 Escort Fibreglass arches, a colour coded dashboard (painted with a brush) and a whole lot of other shit like home Hi-Fi speakers mounted behind the rear seats - and an immobiliser which involved me taking a random wire from the coil, extending it under the driver's seat and fitting a key switch.

I blew up the engine, and ended up putting a 1.3 in and a twin 40 Dellorto carb, big valve head, lairy cam, and exhaust with a cherry bomb style silencer. It sounded the tits!
