Default Ka zetec turbo

Hi all, bit of a random one, few years ago in fast ford or performance ford they ran a feature on a zetec turbo engine build that was going to be fitted into a Ka I believe. Does anyone know what happened with this and if it actually got finished? Cheers.

Cheers fellas, would have liked to have seen the project from beginning to end, although it sounds as though someone is enjoying it!! From what I remember the guide to putting the engine together was quite informative and useful to anyone wanting to build one themselves.

It was originally my car. I bought it with an RS1800 zetec already fitted.

I added 280mm brakes, adjustable suspension, sportka alloys, leather interior, the correct RS1800 rad rather than a tiny one, stereo and a few bits and bobs.

I then crashed it into a roundabout after the steering arm failed, both wheels went wonky and the drive shaft when flying slid for a good 50-100 yards before hitting the roundabout i had braked hard for causing the failure Lorry driver handed me back the driveshaft which was way up the road

Only bent the wishbone, replaced steering arm and popped arch extenstion back on.

I got locked up in the looney bin a couple days after the crash so I told alan at pumabuild to sell it on to cover repair costs etc and thats when PF bought it.

Although they were cheeky as fuck pretending it was a standard KA and claiming some of the mods as thier own

Was laugh inducingly fun with just the RS1800 lump.

was rapid as fuck. I reckon i could have got past 140 on the clocks had the car not been loaded up, back seats and boot full to roof level plus i ran out road.

Lol, nearly 140 in a Ka, awesome!! Imagine it went well with just the 1800 in it, must be epic with a turbo bolted in there!! Hmmm, to have the time and money to build a fun little motor like that!!

Warren i bet it was a fun car. Did you have to do much cutting and.chopping to get it into the engine bay. It it looks a bit tight at the back where the inlet manfold is.

Glenn, I bought it engine already fitted mate.

James yeah, i had overtaken 3 cars and a lorry on a mile (or so) long straight and was headng up to the roundabout i hit, slammed hard on the brakes from "just over 60" and there was a massive bang, steering wheel went hard left while car carried on straight and the brakes did fuck all. Even tried engine braking but no difference (because the drive shaft had already come off and was bouncing down road behind me ).

Hit the roundabout about 30mph going through the roundabout hedges coming out the other side.

Engine mounts are pretty simple. The ka gearbox is an IB5 so the zetec goes straight on, and i have a purpose built left hand mount from trackdesigns.co.uk althought only that one mount needs to be fabbed.

The top slam panel needs to have a slight cutout to clear the cam pulley, but the rear is OK for space using an RS1800 inlet or normal standard n/a zetec inlet.

Get yourselves over to the FK-OC standa t ford fair and take a nosey im sure there will be a couple of converted Ka's there, mine wont be going though as its in peices.

Ive got a cossie fuel pump ill be fitting. The 1.3 one though i think is enough for a 1.8/2.0 n/a

Driveshafts will be the standard ka ones, they have been used at 250+bhp before.
