MG ZR Turbo Diesel....Anyone know what they are like
Sold my Missus car yesterday and she is looking for a new one....she says she likes the look of the MG ZR..........does anyone have any info on them??
She just wants a cheap car to run about in that looks ok she has about 2k....She has had 306's, 307's...doesnt like golfs............
Spotted a half decent looking blue MG with 75k on the clock......just want to know what they are like

the diesels are fine, The petrol suffer badly with the famous head gasket problems.
I can't think why i think this but im sure the diesel engine has something to do with BMW. As i say that might be totally faulse but for some reason thats what my brains telling me.
they quite nippy, good on fuel and ive seen loads over 200,000 miles with no drama.

The whole car was designed initially by BMW.
I had a Rover 75 2.0 diesel estate (auto) a while back, basically the same car, pulled like a train.
(especially after I had it remapped, which was nearer 170 than 140 with huge torque)
Only thing I didn't like was that the body shape means that you have absolutely NO IDEA where the ends/sides of the car are, making it a sod to park! Not a unique feature though these days.

Last time there was a zr/zs post everyone said the zr was built like a bean tin, but the zs was in a different league for some reason, i forget why, but the general consensus was that the zs was a much better car

the k series wasn't a bad engine it way just rover put plastic dowels in the block that made the head rock over time causeing head gaskets to go every good mechanic should know to make sure the new head set has metal dowels then there good for as long as any other car reli 104bhp out of a 1.4 standard aswell so performance is good for your money with petrols don't be put off by evey one saying head gaskets go as the k series are good engines tbh

20K+ Super Poster.
Don't pay over the odds, all the performance versions are worthless these days due to insurance changes(re grouping) in april, check the cost of road tax first as well.

They're worth 2 fifths of fuck all - but every chav in the world will think its worth a million pounds and the old man who brought it new will think its still like the Leyland Whistle is blowing on the picket line.
Best bet

Remember though....... if you buy an MG - you'll have bought an MG.
