Default Focus C max info

looking at buying one of these to replace our vw golf mk4,
idealy after a diesel but only if they dont have a DPF filter on them,

got a budget of around £3 - £3.5k, seen loads of 04-54 motors in that range.
im not looking for performance,

anyone owned one on here?
what they like to live with daily? are they pretty solid?

anything i should be checking for?

thanks

we have a 53 plate 1.8 petrol and i have to be honest i love it. had it just over twelve months and its been great. the only slight niggle is the interior room. we have a little boy and when his car seat is in,the passenger seat has to be pushed forward to allow room for his feet and with me in the passenger seat it leaves me a bit cramped. however, you can push the middle rear seat back and then slide the two outer seats inwards and backwards to give more room at the expense of boot room. we ten to have them like this all the time unless we are taking extra passengers. my mums friend has a diesel, but im not sure which model. anyway, they have recently had some engine problems which have cost them big ands its only low mileage

there are two types of engine for the 1.8.the book states a cambelt change is required but mine is chain driven.when i looked into thisit seems that two different engineswere fitted depending upon the age of car. dont know exactly what engine it is though, it has 120bhp.can look at the paperwork and find out for you but wont be until tomorrow

our cmax is on a 07 plate, 1.8 petrol and it seems to go ok. had it since feb and done about 4k miles in it.

boot space is not massive, but we had a 406 estate before and just lobbed all manner of shit in, but its still a reasonable size boot.

we get about 360-370 miles to a tank and tax is £180 a year.

we got ours after some friends got the 1.6 derv, but we couldnt find one of those in our price range with reasonable miles. they get about 680 miles to a tank, but it has a bigger tank than ours.

upon buying ours some other friends went and got a 1.8 petrol from the same place we did and love it!

there are a lot of ropey ones out there, ours is ex mobility and we got it with just 8k miles on the clock, in sea grey with the panoramic glass roof (probably the only reason i bought it lol as its v. cool!)

we got it from fairfield motors in melksham, wiltshire - all the cars there were ex mobility, minter than mint and low milage.

but it did cost alot more than 3k

Fairfield motors is literaly round the corner from my dads,

i may be able to stretch to around £4k at a push.
I quite like the look of them but would really like it to be a derv.

think im gonna go and view a couple in my price range and see how they are.

thanks for the input guys

our golf is just too small for us now and the c max seems to fit the bill so far
